Mud Flaps...

I am putting together an order for a set of mud flaps for my '03 G500 - can anyone tell me the specified Part #'s and quantities for the nuts/bolts/washers that attach the rear mud flaps? (A li'l OCD, I know...)

Or, is there a PDF or something that shows all of the Part #'s and quantities?

Also, is there a way to use the factory MBUSA running boards with factory front mud flaps? Maybe I can modify the little bracket included with the mud flaps?

Thanks!

RE: Mud Flaps...

Have you contacted our friends at Eurotruck Importers? They're usually pretty good with questions like that.

HEY! Thanks for making me look. I just jumped over there to verify the website and I see they're selling the little plastic insert for city lights in the H4 lamps. $11 ea. seems kind of steep, but I really would like to have them and had no idea they were available! Something to tack on to my next order I guess.

Good luck! I agree, it's nice to have all the factory bits for a job like that. I have a full set of wheel arch liners that I've never installed because figuring it out on my own proved to be more than I was up for. Engine swap to a diesel? Trans swap to a 5 speed? No problem. A weekend's work. Wheel arch liners? Too much.

All the best,

-Dave G.

RE: Mud Flaps...

The diagram below is what I used for the mud flaps installation. Number 140 is the Metal Fender Rail and number 70 is the clips for the front. I did not follow the direction for the bolts for the rear ones. I have the nuts on the aft side and the bolt on the forward side of the frame rails (number 135) to have more clearance with the fuel tank. Since I had already removed the factory running boards, for the front mud flaps, I use the non-running board version. Vlad from fourbyfourclub.com showed front mud flaps that are compatible with the running boards on his website.

Edit: just looked on fourbyfourclub.com website and the front mud flaps that are compatible with running boards are not listed. You may want to give him a call anyway.

I purchased these previously-owned front mudflaps and ordered the clips (U-shaped clamps) from Eurotruck Importers. Note the mud flap PN's are for the non-running board version; hardware for the front are also listed.

Left Mud Apron, Front, PN A4638890105
Right Mud Apron, Front, PN A4638890205
Clip, Mud Apron, Front, PN A4638800093 (Same for Left and Right)
Hardware per side: All hardware are 18-8 CRES
M6-1.0x20 Hex Head Bolt
M6-1.0 Nylok Nut
M6 Fender Washer (2x)

RE: Mud Flaps...

Got the rear mud flaps from Eurotruck Importers and installation is very simple. Vlad also has the rear mud flaps if you prefer ordering from one source. I picked up all the hardware from a local hardware store.

Left Mud Apron, Rear, PN A4608891105
Right Mud Apron, Rear, PN A4608891005
Rail, Fender, Metal, PN A4608820027 (same for Left and Right)
Hardware per side: All hardware are 18-8 CRES
M6-1.0x20 Hex Head Bolt (3x)
M6-1.0 Nylok Nut (3x)
M6 Flat Washer (6x)

Note:  The long M6 bolt (circled) is reused, holding the inner fender to the frame rail.

You forget that you are a 1-percenter. Your version of off-roading is more extreme than many others'. Although my current G is my first one, I've had plenty of 4x4's over the years, and have taken all of them well off the beaten path - but I don't clamber over rocks like you do, dig big boulders out, etc. My off-roading has been much more 3rd world dirt roads in Zimbabwe, wadi-bashing in Oman, etc. Mercedes sees reason to manufacture them, and I appreciate the extra protection from thousands of little rocks bouncing off my paint.

Re: Mud Flaps...

Karl is removing them and I'm still *needing a set for the front. I have Karls (g-wagen accessories) Aluminum Side Steps and LWB W463 Rock Sliders. I'm constantly cleaning (not really) the front of the side steps and removing mud and grime from underneath that cakes up after heavy rains during travel.

*vanity excuse for wanting a set for the front

One question. Is it possible to put front mud flaps if I have on G original side steps?

RE: Mud Flaps...

@ fsedak: The front mud flaps shown in the photos are not compatible with the factory stainless steel running board like those shown below. The molded-in triangular extensions interfere with the running board front rubber caps.

On Vlad's website, these were the mud flaps designed to work with the running boards.

Re: Mud Flaps...

Excellent post. I've just joined up and already learning lots. TCao ...can you measure the distance from top of your rear wheel to the underside of the wheel arch for me?
I have a G350TD and just want to check the spring heights are 'normal' Are you riding standard length/strength springs? I have the same wheels. Dont know if you model should sit higher or lower then a 350TD.

I'm currently still at stock height. The springs on my G500 are two-striped yellow-orange front and rear (AFAIK, these springs are original from MB). Here are the measurements with my BF Goodrich All Terrain in LT265/70R16 at 32 psi (OE size and pressure). Fuel tank is between 1/2 and 3/4 full.

A = distance from the ground to the bottom edge of wheel arch

B = distance from center of wheel to the bottom edge of wheel arch

C = distance between top of tire and bottom edge of wheel arch

Right Rear:

A = 35.25"

B = 21"

C = 5.5"

Left Rear:

A = 35"

B = 20.75"

C = 5.5"

Right Front:

A = 34.19"

B = 20.19"

C = 4.5"

Left Front:

A = 34.19"

B = 20.19"

C = 4.5"

Hope the info is of some use to you.
