---> Door Hardware Question...

The local Mercedes dealer has been not much help.

First, I needed to replace 2 of my door lock knobs, even had the parts guy walk out to my G500, then go to their parts computer and look it up. It doesn't fit, it you look at the pic the shaft is too thick for it to fit.

Second, I need a couple of the black plugs that cover the screw in the door release lever. Parts guy also looked it up on the parts computer but couldn't find it.

Seriously!?

Help if you can. Thanks.

Re: ---> Door Hardware Question...

I remember seeing this site, thanks for reminding me... I will most likely get the door handle plugs there but not sure about the door lock knob. The one pictured on their website looks like the same one I bought from the dealer.
I'm at wits end trying to figure out why mine are different, slightly more narrow.

Re: ---> Door Hardware Question...

Perhaps you have the wrong knob "socket" that fits in the door opening, that the knob slides in to? If this is too narrow it won't let the knob slide freely.
On the early 463 it used to look a bit like a donut, like the lower ones in this photo:

On the later ones I think it's the longer one as sold by 4x4club above (looks very similar to the late W163).

Re: ---> Door Hardware Question...

The lock knobs are probably the same as the W124 cars of late 80s and 90s. the plugs can be had from your local Ace hardware or lowes.

Similar to these in this old post: http://www.pointedthree.com/disc/forums/showthread.php?tid=14470&po...

That's brilliant... Sometimes it just takes another set of eyes! It very well could be. Thank you.

Re: ---> Door Hardware Question...

Most welcome - hope it's something as simple.

I just remembered because they're a bit of a pain to remove every time you take the door card off (on EU models they use a short knob with no head, so the door card slides over it in the locked position to facilitate removal).

RE: ---> Door Hardware Question...

nadd, you hit it right in the nadds. I was thinking how difficult the door lock knobs are to work with when I installed some speakers yesterday but didn't want to write anything negative... as with this board and BenzWorld, I didn't want to get my head blown off by one of the administrationators/margarinators. I have found they like to 'edit' as they see fit. Kind of like some old 80's flick, of big brother approaching...

Cheers.

lol I wasn't aware of that use of the word when I signed up, I'm hoping it is not widespread outside North America. In Arabic it means hillock of which there are many in our area.

I haven't found much interference from moderators over the years but give them some slack as it's a thankless job most of the time. The experience and helpfulness of members here more than makes up for any issues - it's great to have a resource to consult when in the middle of a mechanical mess.

RE: ---> Door Hardware Question...

I unscrew the knob off in the locked position and slip a short piece of drinking straw over the threaded portion to better align it upon re-installation.

I think that is a seriously unfair characterization of the mods here... I can't remember the last time a post was edited for anything other than large photo files, and nobody has been booted for YEARS.

You could try the touchy feely "west coast" g forum but, I suspect you would find they have even less tolerance for negativity than we do here.

I have seen your PM threat to DUTCH... you might be surprised when he gets out of the truck, he may be getting on in years but this is anything but a "little man".
