| 463 seat control
first I thought it was dust and dirt inside the controller that did not allow me to move my backrest forward (it moves back just fine)
cleaned the unit - still the same problem
plugged in a spare - exactly the same problem
so, it's not the controller - it's either the motor or something between motor and controller
I hear a clicking sound under the seat when I activate the backrest switch
does anyone have insight into this field? |

I have no clue, but to me the clicking would be the relay, indicating the problem might be the motor....? |

Check the voltage being fed to the motor from the control unit under the seat. Connectors 3-6 control the motors (3 raises/lowers the rear of the seat, 4 seat fore/aft, 5 raises/lowers front of seat, and 6 backrest fore/aft and headrest up/down). The specific tests for backrest are:
6.1 Backrest and head restraint Hall sensor ground output Approx. 0 Ohms to ground
6.2 Backrest (fore/aft) Hall sensor signal output 7 - 14 VDC
6.3 Head restraint (raise/lower) Hall sensor signal input 7 - 14 VDC
6.4 Backrest and head restraint motors voltage output See pins 6.5 and 6.6
6.5 Head restraint (raise/lower) motor voltage output Key in pos. "1" or left front door open 12 VDC across pins 6.4 (+) and 6.5 (-) while head restraint raises reversed polarity in lower mode
6.6 Backrest (fore/aft) motor voltage output Key in pos. "1" or left front door open 12 VDC across pins 6.6 (+) and 6.4 (-) while backrest moves backwards reversed polarity in forward mode
Between pins 4 and 6 on connector 6 you should see +/- 12V when you move the backrest switch forward and backwards. If that looks good, then it might be a problem w/ the motor. |

update
took the seat out and cleaned all possible connections
measured everything Darren gave me to check
all numbers are good
seat works like a new one
never underestimate a little TLC

Interesting. Both front seats in my 2005 were erratic, so I pulled the driver's switch because someone said the contacts can loosen if the switch is pulled too hard.
Well, I can't vouch for anyone else, but those little switches are stuck so hard to the PCB that the connections aren't going anywhere. So I put it back in. Seat works fine so far.
Passenger side seems to get stuck in forward only mode, until it hits the stop, where it resets and works fine again.
Door panel clips all seem shot so I ordered 25 for ten bucks from eBay. Will see how I go.
I thought of pulling the seat also to lube the tracks and clean connections. Maybe the simple act of disconnecting and reconnecting things causes the controller to reset.

have the same on my truck on passenger side. clean the connector (on the switches and on the control module in the door, works back fine for a couple of months than it only move backwards.
had found a maintenance manual online suggesting to replace the harness with golden plated wires.. probably at jewelry cost. here it is:

I took the under seat box out and lubed the connections with corrosionx. Now the seat back magically works again. |

I had the same problem with the seat gremlins since I purchased the truck, and in addition to electrical cleaner, I've invested a small fortune in something called DEOXIT http://www.amazon.com/Booster-Electric-Connection-Enhancer-Lubrican...
This stuff works like a charm, and I've since been cleaning every connection with it by coating it like nail polish.
The electrical cleaner worked, but problems returned after a month or so.
For the seats, I did all connections under the seat, in the seat controller at the top of the door and the door controller (inside bottom of door). It's been 10 months and everything works great.
In fairness, all my connections looked good, the controllers were clean, the connections looked solid, so I don't really know why the DEOXIT worked better than the CRC electrical cleaner, but I do know that all if my seat gremlins are gone for the time being.

Good stuff! It can fix connectivity issues when nothing else will. I've used it to clean the contacts on camera memory cards, in addition to plugs on my desktop with excellent results in all cases. |
