2016 G, from Automobile Magazine

Reports some of what we heard, and some I had not yet: 10cm wider, independent front suspension.

Alu frame to save ~400kg.  4 l V8 dual turbo, 9-speed.  Lower height.

RE: 2016 G, from Automobile Magazine

Sorry, correction, the article does not mention the 9-speed trans. It was in other articles I read.

All I need them to be able to do is ship a diesel into the US. They can ditch the rest of the changes.

Re: 2016 G, from Automobile Magazine

A few weeks ago I talked to a guy who is working on the new G development and this guy told me their target group are milionaires and celebrities and they want to make the new G a competitor for the Range Rover and the new Bentley SUV...

BTW. I am not 100% sure but I think the whole frame weights only about 200 kgs. So there is no way to save 400 kgs by just a new frame.

Somebody messed up the picture if that truck has IFS.... I can see the differential right where it is supposed to be. That truck has a solid front axle. The G would lose ALL of it's appeal (to me) if it went with independant suspension.

Yeah. Hate to be a stick-in-the-mud, but I really have no interest in this updated G. I keep reading that independent suspension is the wave of the future for 4WD trucks, but I'm just not into it. I'll take solid front and rear axles every time. The old cliche applies - "They sure don't make 'em like they used to!" ....

Thought I remembered this photo. Looks like someone enjoys photoshoping this one pic of the G. This was from 2012.

Steel chassis is only around 250-300kg depending on configuration - so I don't know what they have been smoking

Yup, just look at the fake Gs plate. You can tell those numbers/letters are photo shopped

Re: 2016 G, from Automobile Magazine

I'll admit I'm intrigued and after 35 years something CAN be improved. Aluminum is a great material and we are going to see more and more use of AL in cars. As much as I loved my G the fuel economy and range were abysmal. Gas has probably doubled since I sold it. We can't get the diesel on this side of the pond so no viable choice. Dropping the LBs would go a long way to help. The AL G w/ a diesel engine would be even nicer. AL corrodes at a much much slower rate then steel as well. As long as Gs last - that just got longer. Size-wise I also thought a couple more inches of shoulder room and a couple more inches in the back seat would be perfect. I was just a little cramped - not uncomfortable but just prefer a bit more shoulder room and I wouldn't want to sit in the back seat. No mention in the article about the back seat but if the extra width is between the wheel wells it might move aft also. The IFS....too early to tell. The new front system might be superbly designed while solving some of the obvious faults with the current setup (lifespan, maintenance, etc). We can only wait and see if the new IFS is good or bad.

Re: 2016 G, from Automobile Magazine

Anyone hear if the 2016 makeover is still coming?

If it is true, will the 2015 be the end of the "G"?
