RE: Harald - Hurricane in Cabo

Based on the news reports, it's not a good situation there. I am hopeful that Karl's +1000 mile trip is speedy and uneventful, and that he will soon let us all know how best we can help Harald.

hurricane Odile in La Paz

OK guys, I am on my knees - but I am not out. It was today a week ago. I will remember 9/14 more than 9/11. Days before I washed my car and expected a little rain for my plants - but 18 inches/hour for 5 hours straight was a bit much. 135 mph wind then knocked down everything in it's way. Everything. With the soaking wet ground, nothing had a fighting chance.
Fortunately we had very little loss of life. I lost some of my house. But hey, I love adventure in any way it comes along.
Don't have power, water, phone, internet, cash (banks don't run without internet), limited food and gas, but I can get the occasional message out.
Girlfriend Gabriela and I have enough beans, pasta and water to last some weeks - so, don't worry please. Bummer how quickly society can turn into cash and barter only.
Literally with our last pesos we bought a funky wind toy from a street vendor to add more smiles to our days.
Karl will be on a rescue mission soon - rumors are that it is possible to drive south. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Karl and Relief Assistance for Harald

I have spoken to Karl. He left last night for LaPaz with relief supplies. I sent PayPal funds for Harald through Karl at this address:

..................................

Contrary to what is been reported elsewhere, the funds are transferred immediately. If you decide to go this route, be sure to mark it that you are sending cash and not paying for goods. Also put "Harald Pietschmann Relief" in the PayPal notes box. Karl says he will keep track of who and of how much, so that anything donated can eventually be returned.

EDIT: Email address removed. It was the wrong PayPal email address.

Re: Harald - Hurricane in Cabo

So many conflicting facts creating unnecessary drama.

If Harald is able to post status on both p3 and cgw, then he should post again soon and let everyone know what would be the best route to send funds to him.

I don't need to hear from third source

A more complete break down of the situation can be found here:
http://www.clubgwagen.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=5302&start=10
Maybe we as a community could stay on point with this, and help out one of our own, instead of falling into the same old p3 vs CGW BS....

Amigos - occasionally I have a communication window. I'll keep you updated as best I can
Still no power, water, phone, beer (now that's hard).
Some banks are open, so we have access to cash.
Even though rough, life goes on.
Than you all for your positive thoughts and efforts to help!
I will never forget that.

Hey Harald,

I know the feeling of loosing a house ( CA wildfire ) as well as being cut off by flood ( CO last year ).
As long as you and your loved ones are ok ... materials can be replaced

Alles Gute

Re: Harald - Hurricane in Cabo

Very happy to hear Harald is safe and sound. I understand communication is sporadic from La Paz. But on your next post plz let me know what is the best way to get beer money from SF to you directly.

And for those who are insinuating that I am pitting one against the other, cut the crap off ASAP. It was not me starting all this smoke bombs. My intention is to ensure my hard earned money get to Mr. 4x4ABC and not some con artist.

Re: Harald - Hurricane in Cabo

come on guys - give peace a chance!
It's bad enough that my neighbor blames me for the hurricane damage to his property (and he is not some voodoo African - he is German!)
the BS in the aftermath is more exhausting than the hurricane itself
I'll have a beer now and smoke my last cigar to relax
by the way, beer is almost out in town
now that is a serious emergency
any of you with a creative plan?
shall I start my own micro brewery?

Good to hear from you.  Maybe Karl has some Red Stripe in his truck as he is enroute to you.

If you do start a micro brewery...name it "Breaking Winds Microbrew"

Re: Harald - Hurricane in Cabo

For those who are considering sending help to Harald via PayPal, please know that there WILL be a delay in the funds reaching Harald, as opposed to a direct wire transfer.

We NEVER use PayPal for foreign payments of any importance for this reason, having had issues with them taking forever in the past, and also delaying transfers or putting them in limbo because they claimed that they could not reach the sender.

According to the PayPal site:

1) Under the topic "How long does it take to withdraw funds from my PayPal account to my bank account?"

"Please allow 3 - 4 days for your bank to process the transfer and for the money to appear in your bank account. If there's a problem with your withdrawal, it may take up to a week for your bank to notify us."

2) Under the topic "What are the fees for withdrawing money to my local bank account?", their help text reads as follows:

"Some banks may charge a fee for transfers ......... Depending on the bank, it can take 3-4 business days for your money to appear in your bank account."

PayPal payments are fine for eBay, but not for emergencies.

RE: Harald - Hurricane in Cabo

Hello Gentlemen,
I also figure out that,
after having the money available in your paypal account, to transfer to your bank account to withdraw may take days. As we know, money in your paypal does not mean it is available in your bank to withdraw right away.
paypal site explains that.
"Transfers from your PayPal Account to your bank account typically take 3-5 business days to post an electronic fund transfer is not the same as a wire transfer; it is a group of payments electronically transferred to participating depository financial institutions, therefore accounting for the extra time required to verify funds."
On the other hand sending non-US currency has its own extended transfer time which makes it even longer to reach Herald.... whatever ....

I am actually not comfortable with reading that drama going on In forums. I am one of the G forums members who gets uncomfortable about being a part of a claim, argument, insult for the sake of helping Herald.

I do not need any forum to follow but I check every day because I felt that some members possess some qualities that I am proud to have in common. I would not enjoy learning that I am wrong.
We may help Herald, and that should have been what really mattered since the first post.
Regards,

RE: Harald - Hurricane in Cabo

Let us be clear as to where the DRAMA starts and ends in this case, and it is not on this forum. Another prominent memeber of the community is clearly butt hurt that someone else had a different idea when it came to helping. Imagine that, more than one avenue to send funds in this day and age, who could imagine

I do not see any false accusations being made here, I can not say the same for what I recently read on CG. That was an impressive rant full of nasty accusations but best of all the idle threat to "shut it all down" should you not choose sides this time. THAT is the behavior that worries me, not Dutch suggesting another way to send money to help our friend.

At this point, according to the posts I have read, Harald seems in good spirits (though lacking beer), Karl is en route, people are sending cash to help. Seems all is well, or as well as can be expected. Too bad Mike had to fire up his drama machine...

Hang in there Harald! This too shall pass.

Re: Harald - Hurricane in Cabo

Thanks Harald for continuing through all this to show your true colors as the old friend we all know and love. Very sorry to hear of your beer and cigar situation. I know Karl will bring the appropriate care items. Best wishes to you and yours. Sending our most positive thoughts and warm memories of past good times together. We'll raise a glass to you at our little Oktoberfest gathering here in the CO mountains on Saturday.

Hey Oskar, can you make a trip down on Saturday????

Best wishes Harald!
