Re: G-class with white roof

I've been thinking about vinyl wrapping my silver G55 AMG's Roof, Fenders and rear bumper in a 3M black aluminum color.

hello fintheman and welcome to the forum, yea vinyl wrapping really seems to be the way to go especially if your not sure how it will look it is easily reversible.
its not the cheapest but it is getting cheaper every few months ive noticed.

cheers

RE: G-class with white roof

G,,day .
why not just buy some white plastic and white tape , cut to shape and stick that on to see how it looks .
if you want to drive with it on do it in small overlapping pieces .

we have a product called contact , an adhesive backed plastic for covering things .
it will not look any where near as good as proper vinyl wrap . but a lot cheaper .
and you may only need to do a round the outside edge of the roof to get an idea
cheers,
kerry

I would love to try a heat reflective paint in Texas, something like this: http://www.coolroofpaint.com/

Thats a great idea. Could probably do a reasonable job using a fine roller, for a roof. Might not last too long on a car but it would be easy to re-coat.
They dont mention that it needs a primer either.

RE: G-class with white roof

I ran across this old thread and thought I would post a photo of my white roof.  I went "the wrap" route.  It will probably last me quite awhile as it is garaged when not on the road.  The addition of the white roof compliments the R12 air conditioning quite well.

RE: G-class with white roof

I want to make sure I am reading these correctly. Mercedes makes a tropical roof that is actually two roof shells. It has a standard roof with another roof shell suspended on top of it with an air gap in between them. Is that what you have?

Re: G-class with white roof

Yes that is correct. One roof is suspended over the other on numerous spacers/stilts. It's really quite a cool design idea.

RE: G-class with white roof

When I repaint my G-Wagon, I'm planning on flush mounting a solar panel to the top of the roof to run a trickle charger and maybe a hidden vent fan too.

Does the Tropic room help a lot in reducing heat?
