I know these seats are available but not sure on the safety aspect. I have two boys 7 and 4, one needs to be in a car seat but 7 year old can be in a buster. (in US) I have family come stay with us from out of state and want to have the option to fit 6 to 7 people in the car for short period of time. Could you buys drop some knowledge on this topic. Thank you

Has seat belts and is approved by the CSAA Traffic Safety Department. I actually have one that I just haven't gotten around to install yet.

This would significantly diminish the trunk space also i think and it doesn't look like they are easily removable in the event of loading larger things. (not easily removable would prop. good for seat stability i guess)

The side facing jump seats are not NHTSA/DOT approved for use in the US. I would not put my kids on them.

The best, fastest and least expensive solution, was to rent a minivan for the week. I think I paid $350 for the week. My 460 had factory facing rear benches with aftermarket seatbelts installed. Yep, I used to pack the kids in there making swim team runs. In hindsight, wish I hadn't done it but I was never in an accident. Good luck.

It also looks like a person can install it facing the rear(wouldn't recommend it for long drives because it's not as safe as front facing). BUT mine is just sitting in there not hooked up facing the rear and I have plenty of storage for my golf clubs and other things. So my plan is to make it face the front when I use it on a regular basis BUT when I'm not I plan to turn it facing the rear to give me better cargo.

I had both sides in my 300GD with 4 seat belts. In my G500s, I have only used one jump seat with belts for the occasional overflow kids to the back. It's not a 9 seater any more, but I am not often seating more than 5. The side mounted center facing seats are great for putting on ski boots up at the mountain as well. If you can find one or two of them used, I highly recommend this OEM option. As for safety, I understand some peoples concern in this regard, and they are valid. I have not had people in the back very often, but it is nice to have the option and I don't think you would get cited for it. The Land Rover Defender jump seats are similar in orentation and overall safety. The G is one of the safest cars made, IMO, but driving an 8 foot wide dirt road with a 600 foot drop off inches from your tire would be considered an objectionable safety concern to many people as well.

My needs have changed and I no longer need a third row for my G. It is still in its original packaging and located in SF, CA if you want to purchase it from me.

The MB lateral facing seats that mount on top of the fenderwells. 2.) The aftermarket 3rd row seat for little people that mounts on the floor.

I decided to go with the little passenger seats after HOURS of research. I wanted what seems to be a safer and more modern setup. I've owned my D90 since new as well. The only reason I didn't buy a D90 SW was because of the side facing seats. The configuration made me uncomfortable for real passenger distance use. Then I bought the G, which will be with me indefinitely, but it has also sort of been outgrown. A clever observer will immediately know where I've already put my deposit. ;>) Edited by D500 11/20/2014 11:30 PM
