Lower Oil Pan Leak

My lower oil pan is leaking on my 2002 M113 G500 and I was going to fix it at the next oil change but since I am halfway there now I might do it this weekend. I ordered the Mercedes "RTV" for the oil pan and the job seems very easy. Looks like all that has to be removed is the front skid plate and the lower pan should just come out without and head aches. Also I think it would be a decent time to try a engine flush to clean out the long block since I will have the pan off I could clean out any grime that rests in the oil pan....any tips?? Think the flush is a bad idea?

RE: Lower Oil Pan Leak

Welcome to our forum. Please go into your My Profile and complete the sections to tell us the year and model of your G, as well as where you're located. That info will help us to help you better, both now and in the future.

You'll give yourself more room to work if you raise the body a couple of inches while leaving the wheels on the ground. This will get the bottom of the motor high enough above the steering components to clear the pan when you pull it off.

Also, after removing the bolts holding the pan, you'll almost certainly have to break the pan free from the adhesive/sealant. There are two tabs on the left side of the pan where you can drive a wedge between then to break the pan free. It will seem like you're going to break the tabs off before you break the pan free, but those tabs can sake a lot of force without breaking. Been there and done that when I had to replace the oil sensor.

Might be a good idea to replace the oil sensor while you are in there ? I have a bad one at the moment. (2002 )

Good idea, although that turns a moderate job into a real major job. You had better have small hands and very flexible wrists Reaching the electrical connector and the fasteners is a real chore.
