Easy W460 LED Upgrade

I upgraded the dash, interior and headlights on my 1984 G with LED. The easiest to upgrade was the headlights. The results were AMAZING and only $75 I fully documented the process here:

The dash and interior took a lot more time, research and effort. I fully documented that process here so you can complete the task MUCH faster:

Re: Easy W460 LED Upgrade

Sounds great and the changeover looks simple enough, would be happy to give these new bulbs a try, where does one get to buy them? Thanks for sharing.

RE: Easy W460 LED Upgrade

Adding LED bulbs to standard H4 reflectors might light up the night, but it does so the same way that the high beams do: spraying light all over the place, including into the eyes of oncoming traffic.  They are not street legal and for good reason.  Do not install them.

Re: Easy W460 LED Upgrade

Did the LEDs illuminate the dash better than the old light bulbs? Do you have a picture before/after?

Also, I agree with Alan, LEDs change the geometry and are not compatible with the reflector in the 460. The optics are designed for the "filament"... in the exact position.

Any radio reception issues using those LED's
I've tried LED brake lights on my Sprinter once, I found they generate a fair amount of interference.

That might be due to the computer controlled lighting used on recent models.  Pre-MBUSA Gs have very simple lighting systems, with the slight exception of the ABS/EBV/Cruise complication on the brake light.  There might be fixes for the radio noise, but they wouldn't be easy (RF chokes on the line, etc).

That is normally the case, but these Cree type have three LEDs that are mounted on the top of the "blub" so the pattern is very good in low beam because only 2 of the 3 bulbs are used. While not as sharp as a standard Halogen, the patter is well defined and when switched to high beam, the 3rd bulb illuminates and pattern is extended down the road.

I did notice some interference on AM when the headlights are on, but FM, CD, Bluetooth and aux are clear. Note: I di have an after market stereo.

The dash LEDs were much better, and the LED bulbs I used had a good clear pattern at high and low beam. No "spraying" of the light.
