Windshield

Can a GWagen windshield be reversed, i.e. inside swapped with outside?

Thx.

Probably, but why?

RE: Windshield

The windshield's wear and tear on the drivers side (LHD) of both my G's is notably worse than on the passenger side. If they are reversible then I could buy some time before I replace them.

Re: Windshield

Stop now. Do not proceed. Windshield should be replaced.

RE: Windshield

I haven't done anything yet. Can you explain?

Fyi - I don't have any cracks - just pitting.

Thanks

Re: Windshield

You should rotate your tires and drive in reverse as often as possible...

Re: Windshield

If you don't have the auto rain sensor, it may be possible. But you will need a new gasket, you will need to remove all the old sealant from the glass. This process will take hours and probably plagued with many other unseen issues.

Not so on either of his two G's. Also no rain sensor.

Re: Windshield

Hi William, I had an acrylic windshield made when I last replaced the glass on my past 2002 G500. They matched the size and thickness exactly. Cost was just over $100. I would recommend doing the same. Then when you go for the original glass at a later time, you can save the acrylic piece under your Geronimo mattress as an emergency spare.

BTW, when you pull your old glass, it will likely break. Unless you cut the gasket and are very careful. So not very likely to be successful in trying to reverse it.

RE: Windshield

Thanks guys for the good input (and the drive in reverse suggestion!). I'll get new glass for the G500 and live with the pitting on the camper for a while longer. I'm doing a bunch of upgrades on the camper at the moment and the glass isn't in the budget.
