Cargo Area Lighting Improvement

I just installed a G-wagenaccessories.com Cargo Area LED Lighting Kit in my G500.

http://g-wagenaccessories.com/products/Cargo%20LED.htm

Wow! What a great improvement over the factory incandescent bulbs and the cheap from Amazon LED lights. They are much brighter than the incandescents and much brighter and better color than the Amazon cheapies. Karl obviously put a lot of research and development time into these, as they are a simple drop in plug and play installation; and they work very well.

Thanks G-wagenaccessories.com for a great product!

Re: Cargo Area Lighting Improvement

I have these too and would never go back. Very low power utilization for the amount of light they put out. Less than the stock incandescents.

Just to remind folks that the pin switch for the cargo door can be pulled out and this functions to turn off the lights; it is reset once the door has been closed again, or can be manually pushed back in. I had forgotton this until I was reminded by Krash at the Oregon treffen a couple of years ago.

Harald, Check to see if the plug in connector has lost contact. On mine the prongs in the fixture were bent and had made a very loose contact until I bent them to make a more firm contact. The loose contact could allow the plug to fall out of contact, especially when driving on Gelaende.

Re: Cargo Area Lighting Improvement

Got mine installed yesterday. They replaced the LEDs from amazon that are bright but way too white. Karl's are perfect.

Great job Karl.

Probably one of the tiny wires slipped out of the contact soffit .......who knows what else you knocked off, when replacing the water pump

Just fix it, and you will even see more.....in the cooler

This almost has to be the case.  The light panel itself has several strings of lights in parallel.  It would be highly unusual for all of them to fail at the same time.  Also remember that the light has a definite + and -.  If one direction doesn't work then flip the connector around.

RE: Cargo Area Lighting Improvement

That looks good!

I haven't gotten around to changing that light yet but I've added IKEAs LED "Dioder" instead

EDIT: Photo removed to be resized.

The G-wagenaccessories.com kit is non-polar.  Either way works.

Yes, I know, it seems like a strange constraint. But, it's more of a self-discipline thing - I told myself no accessorizing until I get the diff sorted. Not to say that I won't buy one sooner . . .

RE: Cargo Area Lighting Improvement

Thanks for the heads up Dutch! Those do look really well done.

What exactly comes in the kit? I'm a little lost from the pictures on the link as regards what to expect to receive in the package.

Two LED panels wired to the adapters that plug between the connectors in the fixtures, just like the OE bulbs.
