Front Axle HELP!

My 1984 300GD has a very noisy front axle and is leaking from the right (passenger) outside seal. I got a rebuild kit and have been looking for somebody to do the work for the past several months. My independent MB service option here in UT was not interested, so finally I gave up and took it to the dealer in Salt Lake. They said the differential had a lot of play and there was really no way for them to fix it because they did not have the tools necessary.

My car is in very good shape otherwise, so does anyone have any options for a front axle rebuild or access to a replacement front axle for my car?

I would also try these guys.

I am not in Utah. But differential work is not rocket science. I suggest you print out the differential diagram and service guide from MB and bring it with you.

I would get them to look at it and the fluid. Have them diagnose. They have the expertise. Your MB dealer may be wrong. Get another opinion before throwing money at it.

RE: Front Axle HELP!

I know thy are both kind of far but both Chris in San Francisco and Marc in Santa Fe can rebuild G axles, if that turns out to be necessary.

Re: Front Axle HELP!

Are you sure that it is not just your CV joints that have gone bad? How many miles are on your truck?

Re: Front Axle HELP!

I agree with Ink. The OP has not done his homework and has not identified the problem or what needs to be repaired. You need an actual diagnosis.
