Fuel Filter Location 2014 G63

Goodday House,

Please i would like to change my fuel filter but i am having a hard time locating it under the car, could someone pls point me in the right direction.

I have checked the previous threads on 2004 G550, the DIY g55 fuel filter change in the DIY sections, i have checked everything and seem to be missing it, or is it built into the tank ?

Thank you for your time

RE: Fuel Filter Location 2014 G63

If you would like to email or PM your VIN to me, I could look it up on the EPC to see if it gives a hint.

I'm betting that if you roll back the carpeting in the luggage area, you'll find an access hatch to the filter and furl pump. I'll check the WIS to see what I can find.

RE: WIS Fuel Filter Instructions

One more. Not sure if this step is needed to access the filter. You'll have to try it and see for yourself.

Re: Fuel Filter Location 2014 G63

cargo area removed ......

it seems i would have to bring down the tank or cut out a portion of the body so i wouldn't have to bring down the tank, because the maintenance access is just for removing the electrical connectors, i wont be able to remove the fuel assembly without more space or dropping the tank.

Re: Fuel Filter Location 2014 G63

Why are you wanting to change out the fuel filter? How many miles on the vehicle? How long has it been in service? What is the factory recommended change interval (time, miles...?)

Re: Fuel Filter Location 2014 G63

i bought bad fuel, and when i jab the pedal it chokes for a second or two and continues if i release the pedl, if i continue holding the pedal it eventually stops responding and shuts off, have to park switch off and on and it starts again

i brought out the filter and noticed it was filled with dirt and wasnt blowing properly

tried to get a new filter here but the one sold here doesnt have an option for the fuel pressure sensor but is exactly the same filter but without the small hole for the fuel pressure sensor..... dont know if it will work, so will have to order from ecs tuning

Re: Fuel Filter Location 2014 G63

its practically a new car, just 2k miles , for some reason i got bad fuel, which is very unlike me but i guess u cant always be on guard, i guess changing the filter saves the pump all the stress, cos it drives perfectly normally if i dont jab, but once i kickdown some where in the rpm climb it chokes

J. R. -For Reference, the M157 engine G63 "Specified" Fuel Filter Replacement Schedule is 12 Years/120,000 Miles.

nnanna- Sounds like your Bad Fuel has accelerated that Interval a bit.... Sorry to hear...

RE: Fuel Filter Location 2014 G63

I am thinking the gas paddle sensor unit? Not sure if the newer G have them!

My way of understanding from a bad fuel filter view is if the engine cannot even start or engine start then stalled when trying to bring up the rpm from idle.

Can you rev the engine before you took out the filter? Or a combination of things.

Re: Fuel Filter Location 2014 G63

thanks g-amg

hmmm, the car revs fine, fires superb like a champ, moves well but once u jab, then u notice all is not well

also when i brought the filter out, blowing air thru it, it wasnt very free, some dirt was also in the tank.....

am sure the bad fuel just accelerated all my problems, if i drive like a granny no issues but am sure it will be stressing the pump gradually

Re: Fuel Filter Location 2014 G63

nnanna,

Bad fuel can be many things: Wrong octane, water contamination, other fluid contamination (diesel), solids contamination (dust/dirt seems to be you chief concern), old gas, biologic (diesel is infamous for this), etc.

nnanna - 8/6/2015 3:36 PM ... some dirt was also in the tank.....

How did you determine that you have some dirt in the tank? If there is in fact dirt/dust in the tank, there are a few things to consider:
- Using the WIS's that Dutch posted, the fuel pump appears to be nested into the center of the box in the tank below the fuel filter assembly. This would make sense because the pump precedes the filter. Usually, there is a prefilter (fine wire mesh screen) over the fuel pump's pickup tube. Contaminants could be restricting the prefilter
- If it is bad fuel because of liquid contamination, you will need to have the tank drained, and fuel system purge. For the purge, with the fuel line released from the old filter, I would be inclined to open the central feed line under the hood and the return line under the hood and allow the fluid to back flow. A little air pressure to blow the bad fluid out of the line would be okay. Shouldn't have to drop the tank or replace the fuel filter or pump.
- If it is due to solids or semi solids, you are probably facing draining the tank, and removing the fuel filter to access the fuel pump and prefilter to access the way forward. A tank cleaning would be in order at a minimum. I don't think a fuel system purge would be required.

nnanna - 8/6/2015 3:36 PM ... but am sure it will be stressing the pump gradually

- The pump is cooled by fuel and presuming the prefilter is in order, the pump should be okay. What I don't know is the size of particles that can clear the pump prefilter AND how much of those particles it takes to cause the pump to begin failing.
- If you have had to drop the tank and a new fuel pump and prefilter are not cost prohibitive, I'd be inclined to replace it.

Good luck.

Re: Fuel Filter Location 2014 G63

thank you JR for your advice....

i actually looked into the tank and found some rust of the metal lining inside the tank, on a new car..... this am sure caused the fuel to be dirty real quick, and i have only topped up at the fuel station maybe an additive doesnt go well with the metal lining in the tank or the tank is a bad batch...

i was shocked to say the least, i also did bring out the fuel pump and the filter was fouled also, i cleaned both and replaced them, car seems a bit responsive but in order for me to have peace of mind, i need to change the tank because of the rust on the bottom.

and inorder for me to have perfect peace of mind considering this car hasnt even gotten 2500 miles and my other c63 coupe has almost 20k miles with zero issue, i figured its best to sell and recover my money if possible, before i get migraines

long story short, i sold the car yesterday, got 98% of my cash back

Thank you all for your immense help, i really do appreciate all the efforts

Thank you
