I have 6 breather tubes on the firewall 3 for differentials and transfer case, 1 for the locker intensifiers, 1 attached to the exhaust shield behind the engine for the transmission and 1 I have no idea what it's for and it would be very hard to trace. The one for the transmission I plan on relocating higher up with the others and terminate them in the air intake with an ARB diff breather manifold and filter. Does anyone know what the mysterious breather is for?

They are blue in color and terminate in the front fenderwells. I don't know of any other lights having breathers

You can see the three pneumatic connections and the wire for the diff lock engaged switch. But the question still remains - is the diff lock diaphragm atmosphere breather vent the sixth one you see or does it connect to and share the intensifier diaphragm atmosphere breather vent tube. I was looking at some other pic of VG150 transfer cases online and I didn't notice there were 3 tubes attached to it but it's hard to see. Since nobody has a definitive answer I'm going to look at the car carefully and post the findings. The MBUSA G500 may have 6 breather tubes coming up too, can somebody check? Also can somebody please post a picture of the transmission breather on the MBUSA G500? It must be different since the left exhaust pipe doesn't run behind the engine like on my car

This transfer case is electric shift so the later G's are the same. (Capture.JPG) Attachments ---------------- Capture.JPG (29KB - 1 downloads)

I haven't confirmed it yet, but I'm thinking they are the same line of the both ends. Is this a just extra line? I don't think any air is circulating on both ends since I can't feel anything when I touch them with the engine on (IMG_0716.JPG) (IMG_0717.JPG) (IMG_0718.JPG) Attachments ---------------- IMG_0716.JPG (100KB - 0 downloads) IMG_0717.JPG (101KB - 0 downloads) IMG_0718.JPG (116KB - 0 downloads)

They are extension lines to the vents that to equalize pressure in the axles, and gear cases. As these devices heat and cool small amounts of air needs to leave/return. On a 4wd that is likely to go deep into water or mud, having those vents extended up high reduces the chance of water getting sucked in.

Some of these hard plastic black tubes are also vacuum lines for the diff lockers system. If you are never going to take the car offroad or thru deep water you can ignore them or you can spend a few hours making sure they are all connected and lockers functioning properly. I recommend you exercise the lockers on a regular basis on a dirt road.
