3 point seatbelt for rear?

I am currently working on a 1995 GE320, trying to bring it up to modern standards.

One of the things that the owner want, is to have all 3 seatbelts in the rear, to be of the 3 point type. Right now the middle is only a hip belt - and he has 3 kids. So chosing who get's the less safe belt, is kind of difficult.

I know that later G versions up to 2005 model has the middle 3 point belt comming down from the roof. However it looks like it is not possible to retrofit the roof brace, due to the older style sliding sunroof that the 1995 model has.

Anybody got a suggestion on how to solve this?
How is the newer models 2006 and onwards attached? Is the attachment in the seat frame itself?

Thanks

I would attach the shoulder harness to the seat back. Kids are shorter than adults, so the lower attaching point should not be a problem.

Re: 3 point seatbelt for rear?

I wouldn't touch that retrofit for a customer with a ten foot pole. Way too much liability, at least here in the sue Capitol of the world, 'merica.
With that being said, if I was to do it, I'd be leery fastening the shoulder belt to a seat back that wasn't specifically designed to take the load in a front end collision, it could easily break and hinge forward. To me, I'd try and figure out how to make that roof attachment with some structure added to the roof ribbing.

Put the wife in the middle in back and have the third kid ride in the front passenger seat.

I'm looking for Mercedes original solutions, specifically for avoiding anything that is not well documented and tested. Both the owner and myself feels that anything that does not look like it came out of the factory - would not look right.

As an example, he want's to upgrade to daytime running lights. You could do a nice looking Phillips LED set for about 250 Euro. But we are going for the original Merc LED solution with the proper surounds, at 5X the amount. It got to be right.

What year is the subject vehicle? Shouldn't be to hard to retrofit a '05 or later rear bench into an earlier G I suppose.

Re: 3 point seatbelt for rear?

It's a lwb G320 with the inline 6 cylinder. The EPC datacard say delivery in August 1995.
It just happens to be a Puch, but that will make no difference.
