Heated steering wheel

Anyone having a heated steering wheel and the switch for steering wheel adjustment with the driver doors seat adjustment switches?

Where would the switch for a heated steering wheel be in this configuration?

Thanks
Oskar

RE: Heated steering wheel

Hope this helps....I only know of the heated steering switch on our 2008 being lower left side of steering wheel.  I spent miles and miles trying to find it while driving one chilly 48 degree night.

RE: Heated steering wheel

I actually know about that switch, however my 02 seems different.
Does not have this switch and the steering wheel adjustment is on the switch set with the seat adjusters.

on your 08, does the heat switch adjust do the steering wheel as well ?

Thx
Oskar

Re: Heated steering wheel

Yes, the end of the lever that adjusts steering wheel turns/rolls to engage heater.

My 2003 G500 has the same setup as shown in the diagram.

That indicates I need to replace the switch in the door and get a new one at the column

Thx

Re: Heated steering wheel

Interesting...I just looked at photos on Ebay of 2002 year and they have a switch different than that of 2003.  2002 has adjustmemt in door and 2003 and on has it on steering wheel.

And here i thought you were seeing things !

Here is photo of 2002.  Maybe you do not have heat for your hands on your model ?

Re: Heated steering wheel

Are you sure that 2002 switch is not for the steering column adjustment? Can't remember mine, but I did not have heated steering wheel.

lol, exactly that's the problem .. no heat for the hands :-(

I am comparing the parts of an 02 vs 03 in the EPC in the moment. Not quite that easy and conclusive

Re: Heated steering wheel

I have been told I am a little slow.  However, I learnt some things about the 2002 model years.

Re: Heated steering wheel

IIRC the heated steering wheel option started in 2003 on G wagens. "chilly 48 degree night" you guys in SoCal are a bit spoiled by mother nature. Even in 0 degree nights I never thought It would have been nice to have a heated steering wheel. Probably cz my hands were too frozen to feel anything. I guess I never got used to have one. Heated seats are becoming a necessity tho.

RE: Heated steering wheel

How ridiculous is that, heating the areas of the steering wheel that you never use in actual driving anyway? Who in the world drives around holding the steering wheel at the "8 and 4 o'clock" positions?

Maybe those heated areas are made so the ladies don't chill their knees when they're driving with one of them while texting and putting on makeup with their hands?

It's for those who drive 10 and 4 alternately with 8 and 2. That way you can warm one hand at a time.

well, once I have it working I may modify the whole steering wheel. But thats step2

First I need to get it working ( Dave - its because of Jill's Raynauds ) then we can talk about whether the whole steering wheel could be made heatable

I figured as much Oskar. I meant no disrespect of course. The laugh was directed at MB for such a silly steering wheel design, not at your gallant attempts to ease your bride's way through life.

I wonder if there are any car steering wheels that could be substituted that would have more heated area.

Our best to both of you. We'll have to get together again soon.

Re: Heated steering wheel

My G came to me with a working steering wheel heater, it worked wonders through multiple "snowmaggedens" and through the warranty and extended warranty. But many years ago it stopped working. I wish I knew what it was but not even STAR knows...and when STAR doesn't know...

On a plus, I believe the heated steering wheel has been the only thing to go wrong on my G since like 2010.
