Why wouldn't the bullet penetrate the door? It's the most affordable armor kit for a G but this bullet didn't hit the strike face. So it could be an aftermarket armored version, as it looks like Kevlar caught the bullet strike and the door skins role was reversed.

Anyone who rides with rolled down windows in an armored car is a doofus. Plus anything over the b4 or III A would kill the window regulators if they went down more than about 6" for a document pass thru. Edited by beepers90 5/12/2016 3:33 PM

Or attempt to exit. 45acp has difficulty penetrating both door panels of a well made auto. Any hit on a seat back or center tunnel makes that much worse

The assailant used a Ruger pistol in .45 caliber. As stated above, the velocity (subsonic) is such that the .45 bullet flattened out and did not exit. I also highly doubt that the bullets were hollow point. I have yet to see "criminal/inner city" elements know anything about professional ammunition and weapons selection and most never even have fully loaded magazines or cylinders...they are street thugs and not educated gun fighters. I will say this. Anyone who was around in the 1980s should remember the move to 38 Super in the 1911 frame. A good idea as capacity was increased to 10 rounds in the magazine and the muzzle velocity was much higher, within the range of .357 magnum territory. It had much better penetration capability for vehicle doors and windscreens. I think it is a smart move with any defensive handgun to load some FMJ ammo in addition to hollow points. The best hollow points (reliable, consistent expansion) are Winchester Ranger SXTs probably. I do subscribe to the above principle and load both HP and FMJ...particularly in 9mm handguns (which everyone is transitioning back to, including most federal government agencies).

I have the same gun but it is a registered short barrel shotgun from my time as a shooting instructor. I don't know if I have a pictures. I wish the VEPR had been available when I did the SBS though, it is made a little better. Mine has a full polish job and lots of parts to run as a SBS. And the gas holes are drilled large.

There is good reason to own both.
