Was on an un-maintained Forest Service road today. Dropped off a rock into a deep hole and the right rear bumper landed on the rock with the whole rear weight of the truck on it. Fiberglas doesn't hold up very well when hit with the weight of the truck. PM me. Thanks.

Looks like the end cap also got cracked, but should be repairable. The bumper itself has an MSRP of US$1,220 discounted to US$915. The end cap is MSRP US$595 discounted to US$446.25. Hopefully, it can be salvaged and save that expense. My question is how are the backup sensors secured in the bumper and end cap? They are not damaged, and I certainly don't want to hurt them when I replace the bumper. Karl posted pictures of dummy sensors at one point and if you can find that post you can probably see how to remove them. I think they have a "squeeze to release" plastic attachment on the back. I can't remember exactly. Good luck.

The bumper I have on my truck right now was repaired. No way of telling without looking at the back side. Edited by AlanMcR 4/24/2016 12:18 PM

I had damaged mine in an identical manner last year near Telluride. I ended up repairing it myself by grinding out the cracks then a fiberglass patch on the back side. It gets tricky in the lower right corner of your reverse light recess, getting the contour correct. Body filler the the outside smooth then prime and paint. The cap that is damaged can be repaired to a degree that is unnoticeable also. I spent a few days on mine and considering how light and prone to damage the bumper is, that I would repair again or upgrade to Karl's bumper. The backup sensors are easy to remove once you understand the plug and retainer spring functionality. By squeezing oppisite sides of the spring clips you relive the pressure on the plastic teeth encasing the sensor. Edited by Aircruiser 4/24/2016 3:29 PM

In addition to the smashed fiberglas, the whole bumper is pushed up against the bottom of the tail light assembly; which leads me to believe that the mounting brackets are also bent at $60 discounted. Not being a fiberglas repair guy, I'll probably buy new from MBUSA at a little over US$900. As nice as Karl's replacement bumper is, I simply can't afford the list price. Does anyone know if the bumper comes painted? The bumper does not match the car body, so I'm hoping however it's finished will be acceptable. Thanks for all of y'all's suggestions.

I doubt that you need new brackets, there is a range of vertical motion built into the mounting system for alignment purposes. Each of the four brackets firmly attach to the bumper center section on one end with two bolts, the other end has two bolt holes for frame attachment that allows for some vertical adjustment. The brackets tend to bend when impacted from the rear or side, when the impact comes from below the bolts clamping forces is exceeded resulting in a misaligned bumper. Anyone know the paint color code for the pre-MBUSA bumper from Europa Int'l? The other bracket that's bent is the one mounting the mud flap. It looks to be of light enough construction that I can, hopefully, bend it back to the proper shape.

The dealer sells touch up spray paint that I used on my front bumper after welding on brackets for the license plate holder. Good match.
