W463 door latch broken tab

I found the tab on the latch actuator to be bent a bit causing the latch not to open fully from outside handle/button actuation as it does not "hit" the latch actuation arm inside.  I tried bending back into place and worked a couple of times and bent back out....I reached in with finger and wiggled it like a tooth and it broke off.  Cool...now cant get in from outside driver door.

I ordered up new unit to replace this and am really excited about taking the door panel off to do the repair.   I am curious what would cause this premature wear ? Maybe previous owner had a sticking latch at one point and forced button in ?

The photo below shows how tab is suppose to look ....mine was bent out/up which doesnt engage with actuator underneath which you cant see.

The 95-G320...ordered part yesterday, picked it up this morning and 45 minutes to R&R and all is like new (well it is new).  Pulling the latch out was pretty straight forward and required unbolting the bottom of the window rail to allow latch to squeeze out past.  I was prepared for trouble, but all went smooth.

Don't forget to keep a couple spare springs. When the upper one brakes(from your pic) the door won't stay closed. It becomes a real problem especially if it starts raining. Replacing the spring takes 15 min if you know how without removing the latch assembly.

Re: W463 door latch broken tab

Your lucky it was not the '08.
It has so many added components in the door that it is not a simple job.
Even replacing the spring from the outside door handle hole is not easy with the new anti theft shield in place.

Thanks for the info, I have just had this problem, the door latch just floats and will not latch I guess the spring will be broken.

Removing the lock is a bit of a pig, I have removed the bottom screw from the window guide but it os still pretty tight to get out.

I may look into removing the sting in-situ.

Re: W463 door latch broken tab

I replaced the spring a few days back and was able to do it through the outer door handle hole but still needed to remove the door latch and slide it down a bit to access the upper point where the spring attaches.

Full removal of the latch is not required so you do not need to remove the window regulator etc.

My 1999 latch looked a little different than the one pictured above.

Next time would be a little quicker but I would say it would still be 1-2 hrs work.

Spring PN MA0007231534, I need to place an order and had to order a bag of 25 springs which was a bummer, I could of used an alternative but went with the original items as I didn't want to risk the drivers door not closing again.

It cost me around $80 for the bag, if someone in the Middle East require some spares let me know.
