Sadly, almost certainly not.

Is the air intake in the front on these engines? That won't be good.

Re: 2017 Mercedes-Benz G 350d Professional

The "big" changes are: higher ground clearance, diesel engine, manual windows, somewhat manual cloth seats, no electronic info-tainment center, no carpet and a hose down floor.

Excellent.

But it looks just like a W463 instead of the W461?

Hmmm...no thank you.

I am okay with mercedes not selling this in the USA.

Re: 2017 Mercedes-Benz G 350d Professional

I have heard that Daimler has a plan to build a similar petrol/hybrid model called the G500e Professional (brand new 2.9 inline turbo petrol engine plus a small electric engine) and quite probably there will be also a US version from this model.

Will it have the torque of the diesel engine? If not, not interested.

I read this a few days ago. I'd buy one. Too bad nobody at MB listens to what enthusiasts want.

I met Krista the the G AMG product manager 2 weeks ago.

I asked what about the diesel. She said not after what VW did to the diesel reputation.

Stupid excuse. MB != VW, IMHO

Keep in mind that the GM attempt at diesel fiasco of several years ago still has a negative influence on US drivers with respect to diesel engines.

Re: 2017 Mercedes-Benz G 350d Professional

Could have fooled me with all the diesel pick-up trucks I see running around. Seems like everyone wants an F-250, F-350, Dodge Cummins etc etc with a diesel. Hell, they charge a $5k premium for the the Dodge 1500 with the diesel option out here and can't keep them on the lots.

Re: 2017 Mercedes-Benz G 350d Professional

With the price of gas and complexity of diesels it would likely be a hard sale to the masses. I'm interested for a couple reasons - but more for the lower trim level/price then strictly the diesel engine (which would be nice). I was recently looking at possible SUVs to be the new DD. The 4Runner is a lot of bang for the buck, big but not huge, $40K loaded, and has really strong re-sale. You can even order it with a diesel engine ($$$). Nobody does though....try finding one. So as much as it pains me to admit it - MBUSA may know what they are doing fearing they wouldn't sell.

I'd gladly put a deposit down if MB would determine a # of "pre-sales" that would justify selling it here. They might get enough enthusiasts that would step up for the one-time opportunity. I'm unlikely to buy another G anytime soon otherwise - so it wouldn't be stealing a sale of a G550.

Diesel? In the US? I just looked at the Toyota website and don't see it as an option.

Re: 2017 Mercedes-Benz G 350d Professional

Never mind....I was looking at both the Grand Cherokee and the 4Runner. It was the Jeep that a diesel was possible for $4500 (which buys a lot of gas). Oops.... Sorry!

I do think the 4Runner Limited is a lot of bang for the buck. I can't stand the front end of the SR5. The Limited also comes w/ heated and COOLED seats. Big fan of cooled seats. I got a TrueCar quote from a local dealer between $40-41K with the couple options I'd add (most all standard).

Re: 2017 Mercedes-Benz G 350d Professional

If they are concerned about sales of a diesel in a G, sell them by preorder only. There are no reasons not to at least offer a diesel G if I want to order one. I can't buy a 70 series land cruiser either! Pisses me off.
