Then I can have a working heater.... Don't worry Dutch. The broken links were on other sites. Many other sites! My searching found nothing on this site... But that's more a reflection on my search ability than info here.

Apologies but its true. Just some warning. The heater box, which needs removal is also stuck onto the firewall with silicon, and a gasket and it needs to be pried off to get at the fan motor. This heater box is brittle on the old ones as is the glove box, be gentle with them. Once the heater box is off you will find the resistors for speed control near the motor - sort of spring things with old solder and rust. Fresh up everything you can on this gubbin when you replace the motor. After all you do not want to do this job twice. Even if it is easy the second time!

I have left this job for ages... years even! But have just moved to a different part of NZ and at 0900 this morning it was still -6 degrees. So yeah, best get that blower fan sorted :-)

The motor was from eBay 80 bucks. A word of caution don't heat the shaft to much it will distort plastic fan causing a wobble ,I know. This procedure takes maybe 2 hours. Way less than pulling the dash. I laid some foam and carpet on the engine to be able to lay close to the fan box for easier access. also when I reinstalled plastic fan I epoxies it to the new motor shaft Good luck Sean

Once you have burrowed through the firewall (how?) the heater matrix will still be in your way. Here is a link: http://www.pointedthree.com/disc/forums/showthread.php?tid=7041&sta... Non air conditioner unfortunately in Texas it's hot 92 f. 33.3c The blower motor on mine is not a squirrel cage but simply a regular box fan type blade set up. if you can look in the intake, under the hood, and see fan blades then my procedure will apply. if you see that heater mess than start digging out the dash I guess. also found the motor for mine on ebay it's a porche motor 147.00$ hope you get the the one like mine. let us know Sean

Mine is like yours :-). I already have a factory fan/motor that I got my hands on about three years ago. Taken me that long to get around to doing the job. Didn't matter so much till we moved to a colder climate and I need the fan to de-fog the screen. Cheers Sean - there seems to be a lots of Sean's on this thread lol Edited by Photoman 6/14/2016 10:01 PM

Ha Ha! Thanks for the chuckle Andrew. SO true. Blower motor replacement is a pretty easy job now having done 3. You're not the only one who believes as above. During the Lemans 24 hour race this year Audi had one car that was down in the running order due to a previous problem and one that was still competing for the lead. The higher up car needed a service and so the team brought the farther-back car in and performed the service on that car (even though it didn't need it!) just to practice so they could save time on the lead car. It worked too. They saved about a minute and a half on the second try. The only additional caveat I'd give is that if I were going to remove the fan blades from the shaft, I'd mark the position of the blade on the shaft and return it to the same position. The fans are balanced for smooth operation. I'm not certain whether they're balanced on or off of the motor shaft, but I wouldn't take the chance. I'd mark it and return it to the same position. I've never tried that whole heat gun fan removal and motor removal through the engine compartment deal. Sounds interesting. And the fewer things you have to take apart, the fewer things to potentially get messed up along the way. (I'm real good at messing up things that weren't bad before I tried to fix something else! ) All the best, -Dave G.
