LED driving light placement

I am trying to determine which location(s) to mount a single larger led light bar, or a couple of smaller led lights. I cannot put them on the roof as the vehicle becomes too high to fit in my garage. I also cannot put them where the winch would interfere with the lights (see attached). So it appears that I am left with three options. First, attach a light bar to the top of the top tube of the brush guard. Second, place a couple of square lights above the hood and to the sides of the windshield using modified jeep mounts. Third, place a couple of rectangular lights below the headlights on the bumper. I am interested to hear what others have done and how it has worked out.

These would truly be for offroad and for winter night driving in the country (hit two separate deer last winter on the drive out to my ice fishing shack...lucky I was driving my F350).

Re: LED driving light placement

A light bar on top of the brush guard should work better as you will get more light out of it than using smaller lights.

RE: LED driving light placement

How about a smaller one to either side of the winch off the top bar

RE: LED driving light placement

Any concerns with vibration of the lights when mounted to the brush guard?

Re: LED driving light placement

Shouldn't be a problem if you get a high quality light like Rigid. Go with a company that offers lifetime warranty.

RE: LED driving light placement

I don't think the brush guard really moves or vibrates. Europa mounted large round aux lights on the brush guard on many of their 463s.

The lower bar also has 2 positions on the upright and can mount about 3 inches below the upper large bar. The small lower bar is already drilled and tapped with threaded holes for light mounting. On my old bar, I drilled intermediate hole in the uprights for a third position, but did not end up using it.

Here is the pic of the mounted Europa lights and an upper mounted short bar.

Re: LED driving light placement

It would be good if someone made adaptors for LED's to be fitted to where the factory fitted fog lights go, then you could fit something like the Rigid high & low beam LEDs and keep a fairly standard appearance.

I am sure one of these would make a perfect replacement for the useless factory fitted fog lights.

A 20 inch light bar would also fit in front of the grill and would probably not look to bad but it doesn't help much when your on low beam.

I think I am going to bite the bullet and fit some projector headlights this coming winter.

Re: LED driving light placement

I agree with colsG55... See if you can fit some high powered LED's where the factory fog lamps are.

Re: LED driving light placement

Rigid LED lamps are amazing. Have used them in the desert with great results. Also, if you are in hot weather, try to mount them to not block air flow going into the radiator.

RE: LED driving light placement

Making adapters for the fog lights to fit Rigids or similar LED lights maybe a good project for Karl at https://www.g-wagenaccessories.com/ .

This was my solution gives daytime running lights with the halo, and full light with high beam. Vision x 3" optimus halo.

Re: LED driving light placement

Place a scoop in the hood with a led bar inside.
That's what I'm planning to do on my next G project.
