| 2002 G500 Command radio - stays on when key left in
This has me baffled.........Why does the radio stay on when I shut the truck off and even open the door, exit the vehicle and close the door? I like to leave the key in the ignition as I park in the garage and I am used to the radio on my Suburban turning off when I open the drivers door.
Do I have to manually shut the radio off if I want to leave the key in the ignition? Boy, that's about as bass ackwards as its got to be!
Someone please 'splain to me how I can leave my key in the ignition after turning the vehicle off and have the radio shut itself off when I exit the vehicle.

Curious as to what you have found in the manual so far. I suspect one of two things:
1. The G has a time out feature to allow one to turn the electronic key to position zero but still conduct a call or listen to the entertainment system for about 5-10 minutes
or
2. The G sees the electronic key in position zero and starts to initiate and sustain systems for start and creature comforts. If this is correct, I bet the owners manual has a caution about running the battery down by leaving the key in position zero.

JR, You are right.
Best I remember is that the radio does eventually time out and turn off.
As to leaving the key in the switch, that might not be a good idea.
I think just removing the key and reinserting it will solve this problem.
However, I have told my wife to not leave the key in her new MLE due to the fact that it locks at the touch of a door handle.
It has happened to her once.
The 2002 will auto lock the doors if you lock it once, then unlock it. Within a few minutes it will lock the doors.
Don't get caught with your key down!!!! LOL

Does the cluster stay on for a few minutes when you leave the car and lock the doors on a 2002?
