Brake Pad Recommendations...

I have installed Porterfield as well as Akebono Euro Ceramic on my E55, G500, and BMW M3. Really like the fact that they are fade resistant, quiet, and nearly dust free.

On my cars, they work tremendously, but on my heavy brick of a G500 they don't seem quite up to the job - especially in those rare "panic stop" situations.

Feel like I need to put both feet on the brake pedal, but still don't get the bite I'm expecting. Maybe the damn truck is just too friggin heavy ? I dunno ...

My front pads are getting close, going to replace them, and wondering if any of you have been impressed with other brands / formulas of brake pads ? Looking for Low dust, Quiet, and Good bite... appreciate your feedback based upon your experience.

RE: Brake Pad Recommendations...

I would have recommended Rotex Gold. I ve them on my G500 and my Audi Q7.

However, I sadly just learned that the company has either gone out of business or was purchased and absorbed by another; and the pads are NLA. Damned shame, as they were the best pads I've ever used.

Re: Brake Pad Recommendations...

Do a search on here under Porterfield. I have written about the pads. Aside from dealing with the company (which was rude), the product is good. Much better performance and much lower dust compared to the MB part number brake pads (on the 500GE). The G63 and G55 have better brakes and use a different compound. I like the Porterfield pads. They are a bit expensive but they work.

The squeaking went away after ~500 miles.

Re: Brake Pad Recommendations...

Think I will probably wind up with Porterfield RS-1 pads. I have them on my E55 and they have been great after 50k miles, and still look very thick like they can go 50k again !

The G is so big and heavy, I have never been impressed with the "panic" stopping power of even the stock (extremely dusty) pads.

The Rotex pads sound like they were highly recommended (thanks Dutch) and EBC has some interesting pads too, never tried them though, so will probably go with what has proven to be a very good pad = Porterfield.
