However, I checked my owner's manual and there is no warning light for oil level In the instrument cluster. The only warning light is for low coolant. Why is this and is it possible to add the cable for the sensor and maybe use a W124 instrument cluster which may have a warning lamp for motor oil level? Edited by H1LM002G55 8/24/2016 11:32 AM

I'd just connect them together and know that the low-coolant message means either low oil or low coolant. Perhaps put buzzer on that line too.

If I got a W124 instrument cluster that had both oil and coolant warning light indicators, then I should be able to run a cable for the oil level sensor, right? Any idea where to get the cable or what it looks like? I actually think Behr / Hella makes them for MB. Ie - Sensor cable from sensor in the bottom of the oil pan to the indicator lamp in the instrument cluster. Edited by H1LM002G55 8/24/2016 2:33 PM

I guess you could swap out existing speedo with W124 cluster and you can order the light symbol "strips" or at least they are shown in EPC.

I have the W126 speedos so that the warning light for the Diff Locks is displayed. I forgot, there is no window on the W124 speedometers. The W126s have the window...I think for the ABS warning but I am not 100% sure. Great ideas and info!

Also a 93-95 version with ASR has it I believe.

Also, any 1992-1995 400E or E420, which had the ASR option installed, will also have a speedo with the warning triangle. The speedos are different between the 500E/E500 and 400E/E420 because of the hash marks for max speed in each gear, due to the different rear-end ratio that these models had. The 500E had a 2.82 rear end; the 400E was a bit taller, I believe. Cheers,

The W126 speedo with the yellow warning triangle were ONLY for model year 1991, the last year of the W126, as this is the only year that US-spec 126 models had ASR. This was an optional system for these models, and the vast majority of 126 cars DID NOT have it. It's pretty rare to find one that does, these days.
