BRUSH GUARD

I'm thinking of installing a brush guard to 04 G500.
What are the pros and cons of having brush guard, I just like it for the look.
I've located a used OEM brush guard locally, what should I look for it other than cosmetic damages.
Thank you

Re: BRUSH GUARD

You'll need the hardware and mounts to install it. There arent many pro's and con's to a brush guard. The Pros would be added protection and looks, and the only cons would be weight and price.

Re: BRUSH GUARD

This one comes with hardware, but what is the mounts?
Can someone please check the attached photos and let me know if you find something that might concern me?

Re: BRUSH GUARD

That looks like it has everything since the bumper comes with it. However that looks like it has definitely been in an accident, and could possibly be bent out of shape. Thats probably why the bumper comes with it, because they either couldnt get the bumper off, or they know it wont fit perfectly to a straight bumper.

RE: BRUSH GUARD

In general, you should consider the decision to add a brush guard as permanent because the mounting hardware requires drilling the bumper. You should also make sure all of the mounting hardware is present with the used unit you are looking at - buying it can be expensive. You will also need the special wrench used to tighten the special hardware for the brush guard.

Re: BRUSH GUARD

One con may be when/if you bump into something with the brushguard "uprights/crossbars" it can push in the part that wraps around the headlight bezel into the actual bodywork/fender creating more damage to fix than if you had just bumped and damaged the grill directly which are an easy replacement.

RE: BRUSH GUARD

Since this is still mounted on the bumper, I can be sure that I have all hardware, but I need to buy the wrench.
I also have an option of not taking the bumper with me which I don't need to keep it as a spare.
As long as the brush guard is not bent, other than some scratches which I'm going to paint it anyway, is this look decent?
I'm still debating whether to do this or not due to the holes on bumper, once I drill the holes, I'm going to have to live with brush guard.

RE: BRUSH GUARD

I just noticed that this brush bar looks like the later type that have lower returns on the ends in order to accommodate the LED DRLs on the newer (2013 and newer, I think) I just looked at the brush bar I have in the basement and the one on ebay definitely has a wider "opening" around the headlights. It may look odd on a truck without the DRLs.

As for whether to get it, if it were me, I'm not sure I would risk it being bent since you may have to actually mount it to know for sure. And then if it doesn't fit, you have holes in your bumper.

Re: BRUSH GUARD

By the time you screw around with picking up,taking apart, having painted etc etc you could probably have just bought one like this on craigslist in mint condition for a little more money with a good bumper and not have to do anything (if you G is black). The listing here enables you to keep your original bumper without holes. Heck you may be able to sell the bumper itself and recoop some of the money spent. Brushguards in good condition come up all the time on craigslist, especially in LA/North Hollywood.

Re: BRUSH GUARD

Thank you all for your kind advices.
I've decided to hold off on it fro now since I can do this anytime in the future if I really want to.
It's tempting to have new looks with brush guard but I also like the clean look without it at the same time.

RE: BRUSH GUARD

The brush guard will damage your car if you get in an accident. Some people call them damage multipliers for this reason. Others refer to them as braces for teeth, but on the front of your G. When I bought my G it had been hit in front and because of the brush guard, both fenders were damaged as well.

Other wise the old owner may have fixed it and I would not have gotten it for such a great price!

I have a brush guard on mine, I use it for the roof top tent access ladder
