Weird Electrical Issue

Hi Everyone,

My daughters 93, 500GE had a weird electrical issue.

The window switches quit working, all of them and the sun roof switch. I found that when I first get into the G with the door open and start it, the window switches works, then when I close the door, they no longer work. Today, I figured out that when the door is open they work, but if I then push in the door frame button (interior light control) that the windows don't work, like they have no power. If I release the button they work. Then after a few minutes, they don't work even with the door open.

Electrical problem. I found that the 20A fuse for the radio and cig lighter was blown. I replaced this fuse and checked all other fuses which were good.

All switches now work. I think it is weird that the 20A fuse for the radio, etc. can also be tied into the window switches or is there a bigger problem with the fuse circuit?

Thoughts?

Re: Weird Electrical Issue

My 190E had a similar problem, the power seat diode blew and would cause the radio to work and the alarm to go off only when the door was open, and none of the windows worked. Check if there is a diode in the circuit with the windows and look if it is blown.

Re: Weird Electrical Issue

Being a 2003 this may not apply but…..
In my recently acquired C240 wagon the drivers door window control stopped working but the individual switches at the doors continued to work. In an obscure place in the manual it says that if you push and hold for a second or 2 the button of the tilt up feature of the sunroof it will reset the system. I did this and all was back to normal.

Weird

Re: Weird Electrical Issue

Thank you. Great info on the reset option to try and I had the 300GE wiring but not the 500GE.
