Truck cat systems require more cat capacity than car.

It sounds like you have the two elongated cats that are mated next to each other with one engine exhaust pipe pipes entering each cat and after the cats they flow into a single pipe. Correct?

If so, you may want to build the system with the two cats in parallel but probably offset so as to fir them in the space. A reputable exhaust shop can guide you through this.

Will the O2 sensors upstream from the cats remain in place?
Will the install try to match fit the end of the engine pipes to your custom catalytic system?
Will the install try to match fir the end of the custom catalytic system to the remainder of the exhaust?

How many O2 sensors are there AFTER the cat?

Then we'll talk about triggering a Check Engine light.

Yes that is right - I have 2 elongated cats that are mated next to each other - two pipes coming in and one pipe is after the cats. I have two O2 sensors upstream and two O2 sensors right after the cats, on the single pipe coming out, after the cats.

RE: Best Aftermarket Cats for 1999 G320 ???

So your cat is probably close to or identical to those in the Europa G500s. 463 490 5414 $2400.

As long as your after market system does not require that the sensors be relocated, all should be good. In the rear, the sensors are at an angle and not in the exhaust stream. In the front they are way up in the exhaust so no issue.

I would find a reputable exhaust shop and ask them if they can build you a custom setup with two cats and stainless pipe and set it up like the factory has it. You can go to the shop with the brand and model of the Cats you want to use and see what they say. Your cats are going onto a truck, not a car and the cat needs to be for a truck. They are on the hook regulation wise if they are the installer. Plan on a couple of trips.

For the front, they should be able to match the current attachment fittings.

For the rear, they could cut the pipe off at the weld between the cat and the factory pipe leaving several inches to work with.

See diagram.

The drawing is not to scale. Pure conceptual.

So something for you and your exhaust shop to talk about is reconnecting the rear after cutting the old cats away. Here are a couple of ideas that would allow removal later on for repairs etc.

I like the vband design and my son has used them on his highly modified 240SX

These I have used on two former Mercedes of mine and had no longevity issues

if you go with the band clamp, there are different types depending upon what the joint will be: butt, slip or lap.

Go all stainless on the pipes and fitting.
