Torque Spec on Idler Pulley ?

I am going to prophylactically replace the plastic idler pulley on my M113 G500. Does anyone know what the torque spec is for the pulley mounting bolt? My computer that has the WIS on it is dead so I can’t look it up there. Searching the various forums has produced several different potential answers ranging from 10 Nm to 35 Nm, so I'm not sure which is correct.

Thanks!

Re: Torque Spec on Idler Pulley ?

20Nm or 15lbs ft Good idea to use some mid strength thread locker.

RE: Torque Spec on Idler Pulley ?

Is it the same for all the pulleys or only the G500?

I am in the process of changing mine too while changing the fanbelts. I have the G300 Professional.

Re: Torque Spec on Idler Pulley ?

I would say yes, but not exactly sure, depends on bolt length and hardness. This torque spec is for the M112 or M113 engine's idle pulley.

RE: Torque Spec on Idler Pulley ?

Thank you everyone for the information, but I ran across the WIS listing for the R129 M113 application (I have an SL500) that has caused me some confusion. It seems to say that the torque for the "belt pulley on coolant pump" is 10 Nm. Am I interpreting this correctly? That seems awfully low. Is the torque spec different for the W463 application of the M113? Just to be clear, the pulley I am replacing is the single idler near the top of the engine, not the belt tensioner near the bottom. Even though I plan to use some light locktite, I don't want to have it come loose nor do I want to shear off the bolt by over tightening. Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Torque Spec on Idler Pulley ?

I've search high and low for this answer. Spent a half hour in WIS and then went to the web, found it on Pelican parts.com.
10nm sounds wrong but with the right thread locking compound, maybe..?
I'd go with 20nm and lock tight.

Thank you for spending the time researching this!

I've been going over the R129 WIS document that I do have and I think 10NM may be wrong for the idler pulley. I think that value in the table is referring to the 4 bolts that attach the main water pump pulley to the pump, not the single bolt for the idler (guide) pulley. I think there is an error in the WIS (at least the one I have) and this torque value is omitted. Interestingly, there is a value for the guide pulley on the kompressor version of the M113 and this value is 68 Nm!

Re: Torque Spec on Idler Pulley ?

Just to add to my confusion, I just looked up the "standard" torque for a basic (grade 4.6) M8 bolt and it is - guess what - 10 Nm!

I think my plan will be to measure the removal torque using a beam style torque wrench to get a not-to-exceed value for re-installation. I will then use a dab of blue Locktite and tighten to 20 Nm or the removal torque, which ever is less. If the removal torque is substantially more than 20 Nm, I may consider a higher value on re-installation, although the last thing I want to do is shear off the bolt while tightening.

Every time I do an online search for G500/M113 idler pulley torque spec...I keep seeing this..

Re: Torque Spec on Idler Pulley ?

Oops...sorry about the over sized image! I think 10nm is not enough and you have fear that 20nm might be too much..do 15nm with thread locker. It's long shaft bolt, you may not get a usable torque reading when backing it out as it was installed with locktite.

RE: Torque Spec on Idler Pulley ?

I changed mine this past week-end, struggled a bit to loosen the viscus fan but eventually with a bit of luck I got it loose.

I torqued mine with locktite to 25 NM it felt ok.
