eBay Command Replacement?

Has anybody tried this plug in replacement for the 02+ Command systems? http://www.ebay.com/itm/331976489150?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&s...

Re: eBay Command Replacement?

That looks like a sweet replacement headunit.
Pretty stock looking and nice functionality by the description

RE: eBay Command Replacement?

I may want to get one if it's a plug and play and does everything as advertised for that price.

Re: eBay Command Replacement?

I did it. Not with this particular one but with android based one with the same design - straight fit. Couldn't be more happier. Rear camera, GPS of my choice, all steering wheel controls, phone, all entertainment...CD, DVD, MP3, WIFI.... you name it

The one review is pretty bad. Titus, do you recall which one you are using?

Re: eBay Command Replacement?

I see the one bad review...but the reviewer could also be slower than most...and I only say that because he couldn't figure out 12V constant and 12V ignition.

I love my G and the only thing dated on the vehicle after this many years is the functionality of the command.

Now to determine which one to get. There seem to be a bunch of ebay sellers but I don't know which is better than the next.

The one I got is ES9507US, just another ebay product. More than a year and a half now, not a single problem. Installation was plug-n-play.

Do you happen to have a link to the one you purchased? I don't mind trying out the eBay one with higher resolution - worst case I would pull it and have a nice piece of shelf art.

Just keep in mind for one thing that might be frustrating - every time when you start the truck (if turned off for more than 2 hours) it takes around 45 sec. for the radio to reboot - it is like rebooting your phone. This doesn't bother me,just mention. This might or might not have being solved in the newer version, I don't know - mine is a older version, and not available anymore.

Any idea if the amazon ones boot up faster? That is actually something I am not trying to figure out but have not received a reply from the sellers.

Re: eBay Command Replacement?

The WinCE based ones boots up faster, almost instant but they lack the flexibility the Android based ones offer.

Re: eBay Command Replacement?

you know - to each its own. I consider my Command replacement as the best mod I've done to this vehicle. It will be the first thing to do when/if I buy another G.

Hey thanks for all the info. Which ones are considered WinCE? I would rather a faster boot than some of the Android options I may not use.

Re: eBay Command Replacement?

In contacting some of the various vendors I am being asked if I have the fiber optic sound system. I do not recall seeing any glass wires behind the dash but to tell you the truth I never looked for it. I would guess its all copper but I am uncertain now. How do I check without radio removal?

Re: eBay Command Replacement?

On the early MBUSA Gs, the CD Changer, the voice control module, the telephone, and teleaid are connected to the head unit via the D2B fiber optic buss system, however the audio output from the head unit to the amplifier is an analogue connection. The later G's utilize a M.O.S.T. fiber connection to the amplifier (or audio gateway as it is called). So, unless you are interested in keeping any of the legacy devices I listed (and I hope you don't want to because I have never seen a non-MB head unit that supports the D2B fiber system), I think the answer to our question from an installers perspective is, "No". If you ever do take a look, the fiber optical cables are clad in orange plastic (and very stiff) so they are easy to identify.
