Driverside door lock

Hello Guys (and Gals),

When I bought my truck (2002 G500) the driver side front and rear passenger locks were Inop.

I have since bought brand new MB lock actuators and when I installed them on the truck all was working fine. After driving the car, the driver side door lock is inop again. I was going to take a look at the kiekert relay and probably do the soldering iron fix but don't know where it is exactly on my truck. I want to say its in the rear where the cd changer lives, can someone please confirm this.

Any and all help is appreciated.

RE: Driverside door lock

Not sure if it's the same for your MY, but there's a thread here on P3 with door lock issues being resolved with a circuit boad soldering fix - and that board is in the engine bay underneat the K40 relay.

Hang on - just searched ("door lock k40") and found it and a couple related threads. Here's one showing the area that needs to be soldered:

No K40 Relay in a 2002 G.

Re: Driverside door lock

Thanks for the input guys.

No metal box or relay's under the hood as dutch says. I'm still looking for the kiekert relay... I think it lives in the same area as the CD changer but I've not found it yet to try and do the fix.

My issue is really weird. When I plug the lock actuator into the the socket, it will work all day. As soon as the car is put into drive... lock actuator dies (as in it stops working). The driver side door will not even lock automatically. When the lock knob is pushed down on the drivers side and the car is shut off and the driver door handle is pulled, all the other locks open too. There are no warnings or lights or anything else when the door is closed.

Is there a micro switch just for the actuator in the driverside door?

RE: Driverside door lock

This is a bit of a long shot, but go into the instrument panel menu and turn the "automatic lock" function off if it is on or on if it is off. This is the only place I can think of where the transmission status (i.e., "in drive") communicates with the lock controller.

Re: Driverside door lock

Hey guys,

No cigar. I changed the settings and reset the actuator by unplugging and plugging it back in. Still same issue.

RE: Driverside door lock

I have similar issues with the door locks on my MBUSA 2003 G500. When I purchased the vehicle in 2010, the front passenger side lock was not working and I had the actuator replaced.

A couple years later, the rear passenger side lock failed--it won't unlock with remote or central locking. You have to unlock manually by pulling up on the lock nub.

Last year the front passenger's side failed again--it won't lock. Now the driver's side front and rear also appear to be on their way out with sporadic functioning--they won't lock either.

Summary:
Passenger rear - won't unlock
Passenger front - won't lock
Driver's rear/front - intermittent won't lock

Re: Driverside door lock

When all the lock actuators worked, did they all rise at exactly the same time..notice any delayed from the problem doors? Perhaps its time to open the door panels and apply new lubrication to all the moving parts of the lock mechanism's. Solidified/dry lubricant "especially in cold climates" has been known to cause the lift mechanism to fail.
I see you live in SF.. but grease is grease and your truck is no longer new.
Good luck, keep us posted?
