Is it a plain bearing and the shaft turns inside or does it have just some protective function? Thx in advance. It supports the half axle shaft in the axle tube, and it is subject to wear over time.

Not sure if it Always supports the axleshaft or that's there for failsafe when wheelbearings of swivel ball bearings fail. gr. Bram

Prevents the shaft from exceeding movement that could destroy the differential oil seal, IMO. Just rebuilt my steering knuckle's using FourbyFour master rebuild kit. In the kit I received these bushings and replaced them..the old bushings didn't show much wear at all. I would say, if the knuckle's where shimmed correctly, these bushings should show little to no wear and do not need to be replaced..again, IMO.

All new factory bearings, bushings, oil seals, CV boots, solid factory knuckle wiper seal and grease, brake pads, brake rotors, differential oil, flush of the differential shift fluids, so on and so on. Took several evenings and $2000 in parts..Done!!

When this happens the axle rises and rides on the bushing and the weight of the truck is carried through the CV joint and causes it to break. Under normal circumstances this bushing should have no wear. Warren
