Electric Auxiliary Condenser Cooling Fans

As a follow-up to this thread: http://forum.pointedthree.com/disc/forums/showthread.php?tid=21584&...

Thanks to the excellent research done by 4x4ABC, I went ahead and ordered a new set of Cooling Fans for the 500GE as I found one of my original fans (made in Germany by now defunct AEG https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AEG) was working only intermittently after ~24 years.

The CLK fans are identical to the G-Class fans and you end up spending about half the money for the CLK fans as 4x4ABC pointed out.

So I went to BuyAutoParts.com and ordered two fans.

So we are doing an experiment.

One fan I ordered is OEM equivalent, Made by VDO. Made in China.
Part number: 7007 (passenger side)
Part number: 7008 (driver's side) Note- I did not order this because I am doing a comparison test between VDO and MTC fans.

The other fan I ordered is "aftermarket", made by MTC, Mission Trading Company. Made in Turkey. It feels heavier and looks better than the VDO fan which is OEM equivalent. Yes, I said it.
So now we will do a comparison test to see which fan holds up best and lasts longest.
The MTC part number is: 3520
OEM part number that it crosses over to is 0015001293

VDO fans are available at Autozone and Advance Auto Parts, interestingly enough.

Re: Electric Auxiliary Condenser Cooling Fans

The install was relatively straight forward. Fans are installed and working great. I used an IR thermometer and measured the temp of the radiator, directly where the fans sit. I am seeing ~96 Degrees Fahrenheit with IR thermometer. Using a thermocouple on a REED SD-947 Thermometer I am seeing ~36.4 Celsius. This is with engine up to operating temperature with about half hour of around town driving before temps are taken.
So that means that the fans are cooling correctly and performance between the two is identical and well within the margin of error.
Now we will see which fan holds up best.
4X4ABC already reported that his MTC Fans (I believe MTC, from Amazon) are holding up great.
Mine seem very stout, too.
And who knows, maybe Turkey wants to export OEM quality fans for MB now as part of their future EU membership package...Hahaha
