| Broke down
Well, disaster stroke. My wife on the way home from shopping broke down.
Does not crank, cannot switch TC ( says its in neutral) - pretty much dead in the water
Start diag, quicktest, is giving me a ton of CAN related errors.
Starting with ESM, P1875 (stored error)
Battery voltage is 12.36. To be sure I jumped a fresh charged battery in - no difference
Any hints ?

Ugh.
I usually start with the low hanging fruit in the fuse boxes. 12.36 voltage at the battery is a little suspect but at about 40-50% it should still start. A critical fuse or two may have blown during the discharge.
I've had several Bosch voltage regulators and Bosch alternators not indicate a charging problem until the car just shut down. Worn brush on the regulator.

Unfortunately nothing to add but "Sorry to hear it my friend." 
The baby G will be pressed into service here soon. We'll need substitute vehicles as both Cheryl's Sienna and the 280GE were caught in the big Lakewood hail storm last week. The tough German steel has ridden out a lot of hailstorms in the last 15 years, but this one was too much. Got maybe a dozen dents in the hood, fenders, and roof. Still not bad considering that the vast majority of cars around her left the lot with missing glass at one or more sides of the vehicle.
So today I'm doing a kluge-y fix on the fuel return line of the baby G. It's leaking from an internal crack. I'll order a new one on Monday, but since it's the low pressure side, I can cut the hard line, put a bubble flare on the end of it, and sub-in a piece of fuel line so at least it's drivable in case we need it.
Cheryl got the worst end of the hail. She was in the car-pool line at Wyatt's school when the golfball sized rocks started pounding her. Just by pure luck none of them hit the sunroof glass or I'm sure it would have made a scary mess. That van's got dents in every panel on the car I think. When it goes in for body work Cheryl will drive the baby G. As soon as Wyatt's out of school for summer (2 weeks) I'll be on the Duc.
Oh well. Good luck Oskar! Hopefully we can make it up for a visit this summer.

How is it going?
How old is the battery and have you had it load tested?
Have you checked the ECM fuse?
I've attached the only files I have on the 2002 and they appear to be related to diagnostics of a "grand central station" connector.

Hey Dave,
ouch, we had such a storm a couple of yeas ago - luckily the G's still were in NV. The ol190 diesels and the W108 survied it without damage. The Audi still has the dents
If you some original hard fuel line, I have some handy as well as the fittings.
We should plan for meeting in early August - the Germans will be here again. I was kinda thinking about taking our Gs out for a (overnight) trip ...

Problem fixed. Fuese 53 on front SAM
The intial DAS quick test came back with 5 pages of CAN related errors. That had blindsighted me.
First, DAS could not determine the VIN .. that was hint #1 that I missed.
Then I missed that the engine controller did not respond at all.
Now I know that engine ECU M1 is powered via Pin 87 - which is fused by guess what .. fuse 53 front SAM
I found it due to a hint in the German forum - suggesting to check ever last fuse...
I had suspected the battery and jumped in a fully charged new one - that did not make a difference, well the fuse was blown already.
However, the battery (orig MB) was about 7 yrs old. 12.8 V. I tried to charge it and it did not accept the charge .. too slow, IMHO. So today I simply replaced it.
Bottom line: Thanks folks

Yes, we'll have to get togather later in the summer. Baby G all fixed. Much more obvious issue than yours. More suited to my tiny brain.

What do you think blew the fuse to begin? I've seen old batteries with dead cells create a failure to start but i don't believe that could create a short that would blow a fuse. Something would have to have overloaded the fuse. Perhaps a weak battery was overloaded by the voltage regulator? Doesn't make a ton of sense but just trying to imagine why fuse 53 had to give. |

I was in Denver and the surrounds the day after the storm. What a mess. Literally 1,000's of cars got wasted by the storm. It was interesting to see what it does to trees as well, completely shredded. I feel for you. Nothing you can do to prepare for that! |

Actually - besides we lost power for a day - I had no problems.
Thru the snow tires back on the 463 the evening before and still had the studded ones on the 460. For worst case I carry 4 diamond pattern chains. I run the local wireless internet service, so I have to go places in bad conditions ...
This time power, landlines were down - our service was up during the storm thanks to good planning and battery backup
The mess on the roads, honestly what do folks expect running bald "all-season" tires on icy roads? Especially in the mountains.
