Posts: 77 | Winch Bumper I want to install a bumper for a winch on my G, as far as I know I have a stock bumper setups front and rear. current bumpers are metal not flimsy plastic but also not really heavy duty looking. The lower cooler in the bumper? Really seems ... wrong, advice on relocating? My goal is 2 fold provide protection for the front and rear end, mounting location for a winch and recovery points. I saw this post, and I love the center section, rings for shackles or snatch blocks, mounting points ETC and also beefy looking built to take a hit. not a fan of the big ends, and not easily findable online thus far. http://pointedthree.com/disc/forums/get-attachment.php?action=view&... I'm open to ideas, advice and what not, used or new. But the goal is to take beating VS look pretty. My G500 will be a dirty girl more often than not. Edited by imjustdave 6/21/2017 12:06 AM

My lottery winnings will go toward the Gwagenaccessories.com rear bumper (tbh, I'd have to play the lottery first). But it is, IMO, the best aftermarket HD bumper while still coming pretty darn close to looking stock: https://www.g-wagenaccessories.com/products/w463-all-steel-recovery-...

It is pretty sweet. Your 2004 G500 can accommodate a winch bumper or tow pin bumper and removeable winch. I use the tow pin bumper which is sold on Gwagenaccessories.com with their winch platform as well. When I am off to work back in the city it sits in my garage warm and dry. I purchased it NOS from VTP.no as Norwegian army surplus. The German army version lacks the gas can rack but has the spare wheel slide down. http://vtp.no/html/gwagen_deler.htm The rack is just gathering dust in my garage now that I have change the roof to a Schmude Camptop. I am keeping it in case I want to use it on the SWB G320 though. That is a picture of an Australian Army G front bumper. Pretty new and won't be seeing a lot of them on the second hand market any time soon. Canadian Army front bumpers do come by I believe, which is also a pretty sturdy design with beefy towing eyes. gr. bram

Likely to be quite expensive in the 4-5 thousand dollar range knowing Mercedes. The attachment points are totally different and would require significant work to the front end. I am thinking that it is a $6-8K upgrade installed. Maybe worth it though if you have the initiative and extra $$$ The tow pin bumper seems plenty adequate to me to get the job done outside of heavy industrial work. The Ute bumper is designed for the Aussie fire service. (UteBumper.jpg) Attachments ---------------- UteBumper.jpg (137KB - 1 downloads)

Posts: 77 | RE: Winch Bumper SO I feel a bit like an idiot but I learned today that Ute is short for utility, so my searching for UTE the company wasn't very successful. I was thinking UTE company did a upfit on the professional G-Wagon, VS just mercedes making changes. But I did find this photo, which has a nicer angle, and I figured out why I like this bumper, It reminds me of my old 424 U1250 Unimog. Big bold center section that is all buisness, recovery points that you don't question, you might wonder if the G-wagon is built enough VS the bumper. tie down - frame mounted lugs. Source https://en.wheelsage.org/mercedes-benz/g-klasse/79037/pictures/u771i... Now the rear bumper ... WOW Fiberglass you are right I took a look today and sure enough what I thought was metal isn't. I'm shocked as I just can't see a good reason for it, I recon maybe easier to mold with the tight lines of it but WOW. Mall Cruiser sure why not, wheeling rig make note of it and be cautious. EDIT: Photo removed to be resized.
