Differential locks in high range

MB disabled the ability to lock a differential in high range around 2008 or 2009, I think, presumably to "protect" us from engaging lockers on the freeway. I read somewhere that, in response to protests, they were considering reversing this in the current or next model year. Does anyone know whether disabling selection of a locker in high range was a software or a hardware change? i.e. would a friendly dealer be able to reprogram it in a 2011 G550?

Re: Differential locks in high range

I think this did not start until 2013. A 2011 G-class should be able to use the lockers in High

Just no factory tow hitch capabilities

Re: Differential locks in high range

Could do this in my 2005 G500, not in the 2011 G550. Agree with the comment about the tow hitch. There was a 3rd party fix for this, but I don't believe that it is still available. I saw a G550 that had this done: looked really nice.

RE: Differential locks in high range

Renntech was the company in North America that offered the hitch retrofit parts. Here is a photo of the Oris weld-on part that was essentially the same as what Renntech was selling over here for much more $ back in the day.
I have a rear center frame section that I bought with a rear frame tube for the jack points and rear side tie downs.
If you are interested in it, PM me.
I'll be driving up through Kelowna in Feb.
