I went begging yesterday.

So this Sunday I got a PM from a new member: Cpo1944. He had bought a 2007 G63 and was seeking friendship and advise.
We got together and discussed some items and he says he is going to Arizona, Utah and several states out there.
He mentioned taking the seats out and and of course I chimed in with the need for a removal tool, which I did not have.
I called one of the guys at MBenz and asked if he still had the one I had given him.
He said yes, come and get it, I have never used it.
So this morning I retrieved it and it looks like I am set to give Cpo some help.

Rear Seat Removal Tool

I still have mine, and it is a major problem solver when removing and reinstalling the rear seat!

Re: I went begging yesterday.

You said that right Dutch.
I let my last one go to a member in Canada.
Big mistake!
Shock compression would be difficult without it.
Too old to make more now.

Re: I went begging yesterday.

OK, so Dutch, I have been giving the tool some thought.
I was thinking why not drill a matching hole in a piece of 1/4" flatstock.
Saw it into to make two ends. Grind the needed outside radius to allow slip in.
Weld a threaded nut onto one of the ends.
Weld a drilled nut onto the other cut off.
Insert a log threaded bolt, say 1/4 X 20 with a big head that is long enough to reach the needed length.
The just use a wrench to tighten the shock to the desired compression.
It would be easy to make and not very inexpensive.
It would be flat and fit into any tool box.
I was going to PM you with a pic, but I think you can get the jest of it.

:As for the picture of the tools I made, There is a picture here:

Re: I went begging yesterday.

my seats are out right now. I was going to have a few of these tools made. Probably pick up the vise grips cheap at HF since it is something that would not see regular use. I may make a second smaller one for the jump seat hydraulic piston as well.

If any one wants one made, let me know ASAP, and I will put you on the list. There is a relatively inexpensive fab shop near me that I pan to use.

Before buiding a copy, think about what I described above. That tool would be so much easier to make as the old tool requires a milling machine and a Jig to make when welding.
A simple drill press and welder would make the new one.

Re: I went begging yesterday.

OK, so there is a possibility that I can get one of the originals that I made back. I talked to a retires brother at MBenz Friday. He has one that I sold him. I am going to try to buy it back as being retired he probably will never use it.
I'll know more next week.

Re: I went begging yesterday.

In reference to making more: I just do not have the energy to do this, but I will gladly send a sketch of the more simpler tool if you PM me.
The brother could not locate the tool I gave him, so until he does, I only have the one.
I am reluctant to give it up at this time even though I am too old to lift the seats if I were to remove them.
Those seats are very heavy and I have to store them in my basement which has a stair well to enter.
