Cargo door light switch help

My 2002 G500, cargo door light switch broke off.
I could not locate the part number in the epc.
MB sent me part number: 003-820-50-10.
Original part looked like a black plug with a pin plunger.
New part is silver metal, does not fit in hole and I can’t find the Wire to connect.
The original black plug was located just above the alignment pin guide on the hinge side of the cargo door near the top.
I removed the interior trim panel and could not find the wire to attach, even if the new switch would have fit in the hole.

Can anyone help with correct part number, location to install, etc.

Thank you in advance.

Re: Cargo door light switch help

so in searching the forum, I find a "Open truck light" thread. This talks about the switch that turns on the cargo lights being inside the door and being activated by the door lock opening. If that is the case, I need to take the rear cargo door panel off and find the switch for the light. The lock plunger stopped working and I ordered a new one, so I have to remove the panel anyway.

Now my question is: What would the small black plunger at the top of the door guide on the cargo door be for? There was a plunger that broke off, but I can not find any wire that was attached and the black plastic plug (with a hole in the center where the plunger was) just pulled out. The back appears to be solid.

Thanks for any input you can give me. I hope replacing the door lock plunger will fix the problem and turn off the red "trunk open" light that keeps coming up and yelling at me on the dash.

Re: Cargo door light switch help

On my 93 500GE, the rear cargo door light is controlled by a push pin switch, that mounts at the top of the door jamb. This is the part that MB sent me for my 2002 G. It appears that a prior owner, must have lost one of the hole filler plugs on the 2002 G, and replaced it with some type of push pin button, that was not connected to anything. Just something to fill the hole. I will find and order the correct plug from MB.

Tonight I was able to compare the 2002 to the 93 G and figured this out. So, sorry that I posted and wasted anyone's time on this matter.

I will now take the cargo door panel off the 2002 G and find the switch that controls the cargo light.

Thank you again.

Re: Cargo door light switch help

Are you are talking about the round tipped pin plunger that is about 6" down on the hinge side of the door?

That isn't a switch, it is part of the securing system of the door.  It helps keep the top of door from moving around when the body flexes.
