60K miles service

Well the G should click over 60K this week. I figured i would ask on here what you all did or would have done interms of service, lube, and what not.

I searched over on the "Other" web page and didnt find to much, Some one suggested

Every 3 years:

Replace coolant
Clean and grease sunroof rails and sliders

Every 3-5 years:

Replace differential lock fluid

Every 4 years or 60,000 miles:

Replace air cleaner filter element

Every 5 years or 60,000 miles:

Check poly V belt
Replace fuel filter
Change oil in front axle
Change oil in rear axle
Change oil in transfer case

Every 5 years or 100,000 miles:

Replace spark plugs

Do you all think this is the way to go, if so would you do all of it or just some of it and would you do it your self or have them do it?

RE: 60K miles service

Hi Kerr,

For my G's, I increase the frequency of the factory recommended intervals in mileage and intervals. Fluids are cheap, repairs are not. For instance:

Brake fluid: kept to 2 yrs, but some people on the forum do 1/yr; Dutch's list says 1/yr
Coolant: kept 3yrs
Auto trans: 30K mi
Fuel filter: 40K mi
Differentials: 30K mi. Some forum members do 1/yr.
Air filter: 30 or 40K mi

I add:

Hydraulic fluid: 40K mi / 3 yrs
Belt (very important I think): 40K mi
Plugs: 50K mi/4 yrs

Hope it helps.

Michel

I use the FASCAR brake fluid test strips for the past few years.

I found out about it on one of those shade tree mechanic shows.

Seems pretty accurate.

Re: 60K miles service

to be honest with you i never gave it any thought, I mean the car was under warranty until 10K miles ago, I figured mb would service as the manual says but im starting to wonder about it. My year model had the free service for the warranty peroid.

But my brakes suck, I put on new pads at 40K miles and they still suck. You can turn off esp or lock the center diff. Then floor the brake pedal at any speed and the tries do not lock up even in the rain. Then when we put the trailer brakes on for some reason the guy ask about the fluid, so that got me thinking of my braking problem whick lead me to the owner manual that said to change it ever 2 years. Im sure i have done something to the fluid, i tow a lot and didnt have trailer brakes.

Also the car has been swimming quite a few times, so im sure the diffs could use a change of fluids as well.

Re: 60K miles service

I can definitely get the brakes to lock up (activate abs) and i've got 285's and 33's so i should have a little harder time than you. Garret had issues with terrible corrosion of his rear pads which made braking bad... consider re-checking the system to make sure it's not having trouble?
