| ORC spings and Bilstein shocks
Im looking into doing the .40 mm orc springs and new bilstein shocks non adjustiable shocks.
Just wonding if you have found anything better that is still being made or if anyone has tired the air ride again with luck.
Also isnt 40mm a 1.25 or 1.5 of a inch.
So the game plan of the next few months is this.
Springs and shocks.
New wheels
285-75-16 tires
Winch bumper
warn winch...
Like i said it will be a in progress deal but thats what i want to do unless anyone has a better suggestion. The only thing im kinda worried about is I think i read in the past that orc rear spings are not progressive. Meaning they will squat a lot with a load. If so is there a way around this. The G drops like 2.5 inches with the car trailer on it as it is.

As you may recall, I did almost an identical set up on my G320. I always thought the back sat too high even with the rubber "trimpackers" in front. I would be willing to bet though, that the iron block inline six weighed more than the alum G500 engine does. Still, order a pair of trimpackers for the front, they are easy to add during the spring swap. I also like the Bilstiens on the G. Not everybody does, I think they are a little firmer than the Sachs shocks.
I am pretty sure the ORC rear springs are progressive. If they aren't, they are plenty stiff for your trailer towing. On several occasions I did six people, coolers and 4000 lbs worth of boat in tow. The truck sat perfectly level with all that load on, which included people in the rear jump seats.
It is a pretty sweet set up, they best you can buy "off the shelf" that I know of. I think you will be very pleased with it. |

Rear is progressive and front is not.

Rear is much shorter than stock but little stiffer.
I'm sure you'll be happy with the setup. I still use stock shock but they are not worn yet. Quite amazed with quality considering what I do.

I agree with Brent, the Bilstiens, especially with an AT tire, give a good balance of tolerance in the ride and a surefooted feel on and off road. The package is cohesive and the Bilstiens perform great. |

I have those springs, with the stock G500 shocks. It seems to work fine, although I must have 40mm less travel in the shock. Anyway, it's been on there for 30k miles bouncing around the desert with a trailer quite a lot, and no problems yet. Maybe you can get a shock from ORC that's 40mm longer? I didn't think to check that out. The stock shock is a Bilstein anyway.
The truck will be quite high in the back with the ORC springs. With a trailer on there, and a full load in the back it almost gets level. Mind you, it doesn't drop 2.5". Maybe 1". The rear springs sit with the bottom 3 turns closed all the time. I don't think you'll have any problem with it squatting.
The ORC front springs cope with a winch much better than the stock springs.
There is a bit less bouncing around with the ORC springs on bumpy trails. On the road, not much to notice.
I have 265/75 R16 on mine. With hindsight, I'd probably have been OK to go bigger, which would be good for the desert driving I do, but I was concerned about the EPS. That hasn't been a problem. You probably won't be able to get the dealer to program that larger tire size into your vehicle, so your speedo will be off, and the ESP will be working with the wrong info, but I'm not sure any of that matters.
If you go with the type of ORC winch that you had before, be aware that it only works with the older 9,000lb Warn style winch. Not the 9000i. It's just too tight to fit the modern ones in there. They do a more open style of winch bumper that takes a 9000i, but it looks a bit hardcore for the G500. |

thanks for the info guys.
I have some trimpackers i got a long time ago but have never installed them.
As for the spings and shocks i think i hurt mine when i pulled all that tile to the house. It sorta "floats" now on the highways and leans more in the turns. Feels like you in a suburban or something like that.
i spoke with someone at forubyfourclub, and he said about the same thing to go with the orc spings and he could get the shocks a lot cheaper than orc price.
I dont want to go anything crazy like a monster truck.. Just make it set close to level when finished and still be able to tow. Right now my front end is a lot lower with the stock set up. |

Believe it or not, our best seller so far from ORC has been the cabin air filter for under the hood. We are stocking a few of the ORC items and special ordering the ones which are not on stock. At the behest of one of the P3 Forum members, we have been working with ORC to build their rear W463 bumper to accommodate North American license plates, with both mounting and lighting.
Regarding Bilstein shocks, we are now drop shipping from the Bilstein warehouses in North Carolina and California directly to our customers at the same low prices you see at eshocks.com and other online distributors.

Yes Sean, I agree, you guys should really update your website if you can. I would highly suggest putting an online catalog in the G portion of your website, similar to what ORC has just better. If you could set something like that up, but with good high res product pictures, description, stats and pricing, I think you would get a lot of customer traffic. I know you would see me on your site. For instance, I just paid about $450 to have a glass shop cut me a windshield when I just found out from Dutch that I could have purchased one from you out of the old Europa inventory for $250 or so. And believe me, if I had known, I would have saved myself $200 bucks and bought from you! Just a suggestion, keep up the great work. |

I blew out a front shock in Mexico a few months ago. It was easier to get a Bilstein shock than the Merc original part, so I ended up with the shock shown below (next to the black original). This is what Bilstein lists for the G500 I believe. It is the same length, but has a plastic cover instead of steel. I have no idea what the difference is between these two, other than the appearance. I have two on the front of the G now, and have done a few trips with them, they seem fine.
