That is precisely what I had to say to my wife yesterday evening, when the GWOA former Chairman, Mr David Watkins turned up for dinner, complete with family and G-Wagen! I was utterly impressed with his G55's acceleration during a brief test drive and he was too with my barbecuing abilities and wine cellar deepness and wideness, not least with my fully tiled garage with capacity for three LWB G-Wagens! He even confided that yesterday's was the night he's ever slept so close to his G! Unfortunately, the G they had to leave this morning for their trip en route to Stuttgart to visit some other friends of the German G-Wagen community! Nice pics. I am a bit confused though. Is it what I think it is--a RHD G with UK registation and plate number? The road tax disc was a giveaway to that.

I am a bit confused though. Is it what I think it is--a RHD G with UK registation and plate number? The road tax disc was a giveaway to that. No, it is LHD but it is indeed a very special G. According to David, this is one of four pre-production G55s made in 2002. They started life as G500s and were subsequently sent to AMG where they had the 55 engine and exhaust fitted. The drivetrain, however, is pure pre-2000 G500, with smaller brake callipers that allow the fitment of the 16x7.5 Attiks that he is planning to install later in they vehicle's life -to allow for Mud tyres, together with appropiate springs and shocks and a custom-made stainless exhaust so that he can take this G off-roading. This G was ordered by some wealthy Russian who paid the deposit but was never heard of by Stuttgart who held the car for two years before offering it to David. He got a wonderful deal for it and bought the car and had it registered in the UK.

Luky - 8/25/2006 8:39 PM GWOA chairman is the guy selling the G560 SWB? No, the guy selling the G560 SWB is Howard Green, who has been the Chairman just for a few months between last year's and this year's AGM.

Thanks for the clarification! I was about to ask how a 2003 (with side markers in the mirrors) could have square exshaust tips, like the pre-2000 AMGs had. Also noticed another thing that confused me about it beeing a 2002, it has the electrical adjustment of the steering column via a handle under the light stalk, other 2002s I've driven has a button on the doorpanel, so indeed a bit special this one!
