It appears there is a source for the G seat fabric. Has anyone done any biz with this site ? I dont speak the language so I am limited. If anyone does something with this I would be interested in the findings and whether ship to USA. http://www.steenbuck-web.de/mercedes_polster_w_107_s2.htm Mike Edited by DesertStar 8/27/2006 7:54 AM

Being that the tweed fabric on the early G was also used on the W107(sl class) and first W124's that popped out, I cant imagine they would source out a different vendor and different color altogether in the form of the brown/beige interior for the W460. It might be worthwhile to call the local US people and get a sample of the saffron or palomino colors...leave them on a window sill of south-facing window for a week or so and then check for compatibility with rest of material. http://www.worlduph.com/SAMPLES/mblea3.htm Like someone said here more than once, the G has always been the step-child of MB. With that said it always wore "hand-me-downs" of other chassis models. Mike

I'll keep you all posted. I was not able to find any pictures of their vinyls on their web site. As far as leaving the palamino brown out in the sun, I just don't believe that is it, the texture is simply wrong. I have some samples from a few US fabric people, none are right. I am still waiting on a few more samples to arrive.

I questioned the "sun" theory based on some 450sl I have seen that was the same palomino but noticed slight discoloration from my "garage queens". You are right there are different textures, as I had to replace a small panel on my 1983 by which I had a choice of the US vinyl that was very close or the original german vinyl that seemed to match exactly and a bit more money and time to get. I do feel your pain to restore to original...for me the hunt for the "right" things is fun especially with the worldwide resources made available with the help of internet. I have never seen the brown G interior so I am pretty much no help here...but you may want to check out some W123 ,W126 or W124 cars in your neck of the woods that have similar color interior and compare. Lastly, are you looking at redoing the driver's seat only or complete resto ? Mike

No resto needed, just the two pannels on either side of the rear door. As you know, they have a concaved corner at their bottoms. The vinyl has pulled up and is floating over that concaved section. I tried to contact cement them back down w/o realizing that the vinyl WILL NOT take a second glueing. So all I need is a yard and a half to fix the problem, the rest of the interior is perfect. The palamino brown is darn close, but what I have is more of a pebbley texture, not a grainy one like the palamino comes in. My next step is to cut up the ruined vinyl and send it out to see if any one can identify it. Dutch, dattlebraun I believe is correct. I've heard that the US suppliers call it palamino As the original owner, do you have any feeling at all that the G was re-upolstered at any time? By the way sorry to take this thread somewhere other than where it started, the tweed fabric found by the original person is a great find! -James
