That is such a shame that one of the well-known marques in 4x4s is at the bottom of the list. I remembered seeing that article a few weeks ago. The article listed the LR3 and Range Rover as having issues, but not the Range Rover Sport.
Knock on wood and with my fingers crossed, my '00 LR Disco II has not had any issues. It is overdue for a 90k mile service. The LR Disco II was one the products under the BMW ownership before Ford took over.
On that same note of auto company ownership, there were several articles about Ford selling their Premier Auto marques (Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover, and Volvo). It will be interesting to see who bids for Land Rover. |

My ex wife used to drive for a main dealer that had Lexus, LR/ Range Rover and Jaguar as there consessionaires.
They decided to get rid of Lexus as it made them hardly any money aftersales as they were so reliable, their top moneymaker was of course LR/RRover |

Ya know, owning a Land Rover for the past 5years, I have never had a Catastrophic falure of anything. It is not G, but still a very capable, and reliable vehicle! Every LR3 owner(not that I want one or would buy one), is more than happy with theirs, and yes most of them have taken it off-road(yes I was shocked!) So...whatever!  |

In most articles I have read in magazines or the internet, some (if not most) of the complaints do not deal with driving from point A to point B. Some of the complaints can be:
-Gas milieage: Duh! What did you expect
with an SUV.
-Why can't LR make an option for vehicle
to drive in 2WD mode when on pavement:
Full-time 4WD is a main characteristic of
LR.
-Controls and buttons look complicated.
-Getting in and out.
-Third row seats not much space.
Again, these are more of peoples' opinions than the driveability of the car, which is what should count the most. The above things are not going to leave you stranded on the side of the road.
Now my G ran into a couple things back in May. Then again, my vehicle is almost 25 years old and that can be expected--not a problem to me. But my G can still go from point A to point B as a daily driver if I wanted. By the way, I drive my G 3 or 4 days every other day at no more than 100 miles a week. |

If my G500 turns out to be as dependable as my '89 Range Rover was, I'll be a very happy person. I pushed and punished that Range Rover on a regular basis, and it just sucked it all up and kept on going. On the other hand, I rented two LR3's last year in Denver, and ran the trails in the front range a little. I love that car, until it broke the second day. Thus the reason for two. If this hadn't happened, I would probably be driving an LR3 instead of the G.

being a LR owner since 96, I have never had any serious problems with either my D1 or D2. But I have to admit that I will no longer consider another or many newer cars for that fact. I guess that is one reason I like the older G's and other vehicles along these lines |

Whenever I see new SUVs, especially the LR products, I do not think it is right for me to "force myself" into liking one or more particular trucks. It seems the only new SUVs I do not have to force myself to like are the Gs. Hehehe!!! In a way to me, it is a good thing--that means I do not have to worry about car payments for a long time. I just hope to keep my LR Disco II and 460 G a long time. I couldn't consider anything else. |

This is true but I do not think one would be for me. I am just not a person big on all the systems that rely on computers and that sorts that keep me in the garage. Just a big cash cow for the auto world in thinking that something is always wrong with your vehicle.
I just hope to keep my LR Disco II and 460 G a long time. I couldn't consider anything else.
I would agree except I do not have a G to call my own yet but I hope to change this. Like everything with proper maintenance, you should be able to keep them a life time but I did not have to tell you or anyone else for that matter

| Hyundai to Buy Land Rover?
Like a lot of people have mentioned in this forum about Gs: once you have a desire for a G and start a search for a G, you are trapped. You cannot escape. It is like a disease. And the list of synonymous phrases goes on... By the way, I was Barnes and Noble Bookstore just now reading Car magazine. There was an article about Ford selling Jaguar and Land Rover. It mentioned a potential buyer of Land Rover as Hyundai. Of course, this is not for certain yet. Another possible buyer mentioned was GAZ, a Russian company. Can you imagine the possible names for future Land Rovers given Hyundai names like Tuscon, Santa Fe, etc? Hmm...Western United States names: Land Rover Phoenix (name to revive the Land Rover nameplate too; you get it?), Land Rover Gallup, Land Rover Carlsbad (I'm going to stop before the names really are 'bad'). |

I know Daimler Chrysler's Mercedes-Benz division has some kind of partnership with Ssangyong, which was set up during the span from 1991 to 1993: http://www.smotor.com/en/overview/history_2.jsp You can see how similar the cars look to MB products. Also, Daimler Chrysler plays a role in Mitsubishi Fuso Heavy Trucks Division. Hyundai is its own company. They have a few key investors (players) from the Middle East. |
