Just got my latest G home!

I was scared of this one... Sounded too cheap and had been for sale for a long time, but like I say it was pretty cheap. Unloaded it off of the trailer this morning, checked the fluids, and off I went. I believe the milage must be correct, not over once or twice like I figured it was because... NO front end vibration! No driveline vibration! Transfer case lever doesn't even move around! Only mechanical problem I can find is that the rear locker doesn't work, but after putting it on the lift I found the problem, a pinhole in the locker line. The thing isn't even rusty! Has a few spots of bubling paint near the tail lights and on the left front fender, but it is plenty solid!

Now to repaint it in a color that is not so ugly.

And a couple of pictures with the rest of the fleet!

Nice fleet... I saw that one on ebay a few weeks ago but I thought it was a little far for me but it looks at home with a family of G's

Re: Just got my latest G home!

Nice fleet of Gs. When I was first looking for a G earlier this year, I was looking at that BBs edition G from the East Coast. I had thought about converting it to a regular spec G with 6J wheels and the whole nine yards; but then decided that if it was indeed a BBS edition like what is described in the Brooklands Mercedes G-wagen: 1981 to 1994, then I would not mess with it and find another G.

I'm in Floyds Knobs, that is about 2-3 hours south of Indy (real close to louisville, KY).

Nice collection of G's!! My G has the vibration thing going on that you mentioned and the transfer case lever vibrates. Where are most of my problems coming from? I have checked the drive shafts fof the lining up of the arrows but this has not helped a lot. What should I do and where should I start???

Thankyou DUTCH I will give all of these points on Vinthers a go. Vibrations are so frustrating and are taxing on my top-end speed. Thankyou.

Oh, Oh! "Justgoodguy" strikes again.

I hope this one is in better condition than previous ones he's sold. In the past, his paint jobs have hidden a lot of "sins".

RE: Just got my latest G home!

Dutch,

I was sceptical of this G, but I figured for $6200 it would have to be pretty bad to not be worth it. I don't think ol' Justgoodguy painted this one, as the current paint looks to be at least 10 years old and they had all of the doors off and windows out when they did it. After further inspection there is no serious rust in the floors, and there is no rust through anywhere under the truck and there is no rust at all under where the rubber trim screws to the body (don't know how). The carpets are trashed in the front from the sunroof leaking, but it didn't rot the floors out. I'm going to have to replace the high pressure A/c line to the evaporator, the headlight switch, the wiper linkage, and the heater blower motor, but nothing too major. It is in suprisingly good condition, especially knowing where it came from. Looks like I squeaked through on this one

Dutch: Sounds like there was some trouble with Justgoodguy's Gs.  Do you know of how many he sold?  What variants (SWB, LWB, Cabrio)?  Were there posts/complaints on the old BW forum about this?

Ben: Even at $6200, that sounds better than the original $9990 list price.  Are you going to retain the BBS (B & B Special) look or restore it to a stock G?

RE: Just got my latest G home!

gwagen460swb:

I'm probably going to go about half way between original and it's current BBS state. It has a lot of cool features on it that I'm going to retain, but for the exterior I'm definately going to paint it a different color, leaving the flares, bumpers, and front pieces matching the body, and adding G500 wheels ('cause I can't stand BBS wheels). The dash is all going to be black again, as well as the carpets will be replaced with new black material. I am going to leave the overhead console in it for the stereo, ect because it keeps the stereo up out of the way and gives a good spot for the CB. I'm going to leave the seats because they are the most comfortable I've ever felt in a G, although I may recover them/change the color to black. I may put an OM617A with an auto trans in it because I've got 5 or 6 spares in the Salvage yard, or I've got a spare 6.9 liter V8 Mercedes engine that I've been dieing to put in something for a long time now (The transfercase won't like it though). Whatever I do, I'll post pictures for all to see.
