Another succesful 617 extraction

A proud day for me as I finally pulled the dead 617 out of my G. It was the first time I pulled an engine besides air-cooled VW's. Next comes digging the 617a out of the donor car. Glad to have all the knowledge that this board has to offer, otherwise I may not have attempted this. Now if I could only post a picture on here.

Great. I always cut my hands to shreds working on the girlfriend's aircooled VW. Hate them. Best of luck with the transfer. Are you having a custom exhaust made?

I will be having a custom exhaust made once it is running. The plan is to have it come out in front of the rear wheels like a G55 rather than squeezing under the fuel tank. I left the gear box in place.

I allways find it is so much easier to lift both out together allowing the prop shaft to seperate on the splines having first carefully marked the position of same prior to parting.

When replacing exhaust pipes, this is a great time to move to stainless. Most shops can create what you want from stock material. I have accumulated stock materal ready to be weilded inplace when the time comes. All that i need to add is a stainless muffler. 617 nonturbo.
