cold start problems on a 280gel manual

Has anyonevexperienced cold starting problems with their 280's. My one starts a bit difficult on a cold day and initially the revs are very low unless you press the throttle. But picks up very quickly and works fine afterwards. High revs until the engine is hot.
What is the best way of approaching this problem?

RE: cold start problems on a 280gel manual

For a long time, I had problems starting my 230GE automatic when the engine was cold, even on warmer days. I always had to use the gas to get the engine started. I recently replaced the cold start injector (Thanks to Vlad at mercedes@fourbyfourclub.com) and it now starts without me touching the gas and fires up fast!

Search the forum

Approaches to troubleshooting this problem have been discussed at length before on this forum.  There are some evaluations to make to determine what the most likely cause is in your case.  Read some of the info out there and then come back with more questions.  I think that'll be a more solid path for you than just trying each thing that someone else has done.

Great to see a new user!  Please come back with lots of posts!  And do fill out your bio so folks can understand always what kind of truck you're talking about, where in the world you're located, etc. without you having to take the time to post that information in each post.

All the best,

-Dave G.

Re: cold start problems on a 280gel manual

You could start here:

http://www.pointedthree.com/disc/search/query.php?f=0&action=search&searchforumid=57&keywords=cold+start&mode=1&subjects=1&messages=1&author=&collapsethreads=1&days=1&datemode=3&custom-start=&custom-end=

but that's just one possible search (I searched all posts to G forum for "cold start").  Use the search button on the menu bar and click "Advanced Search" to make your own criteria.  Use "hipine" as the author if you want to find threads with my stuff, but others have posted good stuff too.

Good luck!

RE: cold start problems on a 280gel manual

thanks for the link Dave. So many things to check! And I am going to need help.

1.how exactly do you check the fuel accumulator?

2. I have an automotive voltmeter., and I like to check the cold start injector etc.
Is there a book / manual that shows me how to do it ? I need a bit more explanation then I found in your posts.
Or may be you can send me some more detailed explanations.

My fuel pump is new, so are the injectors, I will use the spray method to check for any leaks as well
With patience we will get there.

RE: cold start problems on a 280gel manual

The accumulator is usually more directly related to hot start problems than cold, but it never hurts to check it. Matter of fact, it would probably be good to do every time one changes the fuel filter, since you're under there anyway. All you need to do is remove the rubber line from the rear-most end of the accumulator and clamp it off. Then start the fuel pump. If fuel comes out the back of the accumulator, it needs replacing. For articles describing how to run the fuel pump, check the cold start injector, etc, Have a look at the articles in the G-tech section of ClubGwagen.com. I had thought that links in the other threads would have lead you there. Sorry about that.If you've already looked at the CGW articles and have more questions, give me some references to step #, etc and where you're confused, and I can give more detail. All the best,-Dave G.
