Heater Core and dash lights

The heater blower just gave up and I was lucky to trace down a Bosch number for the motor/fan on the old forum.
Thank you G-Zilla for the Bosch number and Dave G for the tech article on clubgwagen.

Is there another sourch for the heater core than MB? - BEHR?

Has anybody replaced dash board light bulbs with LEDs?

RE: Heater Core and dash lights

Are you sure the heater blower is Kaput? My blower stopped working and I discovered that the switch was faulty. Put in a new switch and back to normal.

RE: Heater Core and dash lights

Yes, The motor and recistance are out and obviously beyond repair.
The heater element is dubious and worthwhile changing. I was hoping to find other alternative than the MB dealer for the core.

Re: Heater Core and dash lights

I have replaced all interior bulbs with Red LEDS and cool white led for the clock. The result is much better than ordinary bulbs.
Also, I have used stop/tail light leds , sidelight front leds and leds for the number plate lights as well. Very good results . Overall it looks much better and power consumption is incredibly low. So less load on the alternator. I say just Go for it !

Any "how-to's" , pictures of your project??? Haven't figured out by myself yet - how to put the resistor and diode to bulb socket in neat way. Yet.

I have replaced all interior bulbs with Red LEDS ............!

Is your solution "plug and play"? and what kind of diodes did you use?

RE: LEDs for the switch gear.

I wrote up a bit of a howto here: Switch Howto

This really only deals with the dash switches and not the instrument lights (the instrument light bulbs are pretty cheap locally).

If you wanted to do the instrument lights, I think I would get 3mm hi-intensity leds with integrated resistors, I'm reasonably sure they would just fit in the housings nicely, I don't think there is much room for adding your own resistors which is why it is probably prudent to get the integrated ones.  The leds with integrated resistors are available but fairly hard to find since the resistance is dependant on supply voltage and no-one wants to stock a usefull variety.

Re: Heater Core and dash lights

Why are you making things complicated for yourselves? All the leds are available off the shelf "plug and play" dont need any resisitors etc.
check
http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/
In the dash you use 3 different kinds
for the heater controls 2 kinds.
I can get the product codes if you need.I made some mistakes when ordering. You dont have to

I agree with the exception of the bulb for the tach. I can't get the particular bulb (s3 base?) locally and the shipping costs on stuff is ridiculous. It wasn't that hard to use the base (remove the glass etc) and make one using a LED and resistor.

Thanks for the info mate. If it's not too much - can you give some codes. (ie dashboard bulbs, tailights, stop, turn signal) i didn't figured out - why all those tail and stop bulbs are dual contact base?

regards

Re: Heater Core and dash lights

i will try and get all the codes for you tomorrow, based on my 1986 460 280gel. Otherwise you have to take yours out and try and match them from the website fotos.
tail/brake lights are dual base because two functions in one lamp!

Heater Core and fan part numbers

Just wanted to follow up on the parts numbers.
The parts are the same as in MB 207, 309 etc. delivery trucks of same wintage.

The heater fan motor directly from Bosch is 0 130 007 064 (-714)

I got the heater core from Nissens in Denmark and it bears the number 8FH 351 312-251 that I think is the BEHR number as it identical to the original core.

Prices were about 1/3 of local MB dealer
