Has anyone ever tried / thought to mount a Cabrio Spare Wheel Carrier [Swing-Arm type] on a non-Cabrio G? As I -still- am restauring my G, I thought It would be a good idea so the back door (hinges) do(es) not have to carry any weight anymore... Not sure though if this topic already was discussed before - I didn't find it anyway To all a happy and healthy 2007 - for you, your family ánd your G! - Jean

Well... I think so. Thanks for the pic! But on the other hand ... your G has a double rear door; did it was manufactered like this or did you add the swing-arm spare wheel carrier afterwards? I was wondering that when I would attach the cabrio swing-arm type spare wheel carrier, lots of reinforcements to the body would be necessary at the mounting points? Thanks ahead!! Jean

But i really don't know. The rear jumps seats for example already have the nuts drilled to the interior body so all you have to do for them is to drill the access holes and then just bolt in. At least for the hinged area. You might have a custom job on your hands for the part that looks like it attaches to the door. nice truck gwagen460swb Edited by ewalberg 12/29/2006 8:29 PM

Is it possible that somebody with a Swing-Carrier on their G can have a look at this? Thanks ahead! I'll owe you a whenever you pass Belgium! Cheers Jean

I am more interested though in the attachement of the carrier mountings to the G body itself so I have an idea about the reinforcements needed to the body there where the carrier mountings will be placed. Is it just "drill a hole and bolt it on"? Probably some thick metal plate reinforces the body at the carrier mounting points [One under the right rear light and one higer]? When mounting the "thing that prevents the swing arm to open", probably no special attention hads to be paid to reinforcement as this holds no weight? Cheers! Jean

Hello again Jean , on the factory fitted carrier the reinforment plates on the base of the hinge is spot welded within the chassis on the line at graz if you retro fit one you need to push wahers down the chassis to add renforcement the hinge at the top of the carrier has a spreder plate fitted to carry the load . mine has been offroad a fair bit with no problems ... maybe someone can post the parts drawing ?? You are right. What I meant is that no G carries the spare wheel on either double door. Cheers

Mark Thanks again for all help but actually I am more interested in the way the body is reinforced at the points where the carrier mountings are attached to it. Is it possible that somebody can have a look inside the right rear light hole and inside the G at the right rear corner to see what kind of reinforcements were put in place there by the manufacturer in order to prevent the carrier to fall off during the first off-road trip? Cheers Jean
