TIme for a Change

Driving my 02 silver with 47K on it and just having it serviced (B service plus front brakes) and trying to move around traffic on the Henry Hudson Southbound the accelerator stops working! No power anywhere and just sits and idles. I miss getting hit by inches and glide to the side of the road. Teleaid and find that they can not service vehicle on the Henry Hudson.

So....

Here is the question

How many of us with 02 have had a problem with the fly by no wire throttle?

Needless to say this 02 is toast.

Thoughts?

I had what sounds like a similar problem on my 2000 a month or so back. Shut the engine off and restart; and it should reset. Vlad had the best description of what happened. It's happened to Erik, also. I have the new Throttle Position Sensor in the back of the truck; but haven't bothered to install it, since it hasn't happened again.

On the other hand, it could be something else; and the ECU has gone into the Limp Home Mode.

This happened to the gray one twice. It is different from limp home mode. There is no response to the pedal. Restarts have no effect. I think your ML is my next ride to replace the 02. Thanks.

Maybe it's time to get rid of your G. Dare I say get a GL CDI?

TPS - Throttle Position Sensor

I took apart Erik's throttle position sensor. This is a device unlikely to fail. Essentially no moving parts. The input shaft rotates a magnet around two Hall effect sensors mounted back to back. The sensors thus give opposite readings for any movement, providing a check on a vital signal. Short of a serious voltage spike or parking your truck inside an MRI machine, this part ought to be on the never fails list.

If you are getting a code that implicates the TPS, I'd first clean the contact points and try again.
