Below is what I posted. On Saturday night I stopped and put some Chevron Supreme in my car and went on my way. I noticed that my "Check Engine" light came on. I thought I had just inadequately screwed on my gas cap, but this was not the case. I didn't drive yesterday and tonight figured that the light may have just shut itself off. Again this was not the case. Now when I stop at a stop sign and attempt to give the car some gas, it hesitates for a moment and then moves forward. I checked the forum already but could only find hesitation as it corresponds to the K Jettronic fuel injection system. Has anyone experienced such symptoms. I'm just praying that this has nothing to do with my Catalytic Converter as my old ML320 went through 4 Cats while I owned it. Should I try filling the car up? As I live in SF and hardly drive more than 300 miles a month at most, I try not to keep a full tank of gas in the car for risk of gumming up my injectors and fuel lines. Should I try running some type of injector/fuel system cleaner through the vehicle. I hate to take the car to MB SF so they can bend me over to plug a computer into the car, Any thoughts?

I've had several ML430's and 500's through the shop with that symptom and it is usually the MAFS. These aren't cheap, so I'd recommend finding someone with a generic OBDII code reader and check to see what the code is, or bite the bullet and have MB read the code if you don't have a good independant mb mechanic locally... There is really no substitute to knowing what code the computer has that is causing the check engine light. Cheers, Ben

From the right source, the MAF can be had for around US$200 and installation takes about 30 minutes with a screwdriver.

I'm curious as to whether I got a bad batch of Supreme gasoline. The next day I put another 10 gallons in the car, after driving out about the amount of gas I put in the vehicle the first time, all problems stopped...

Depending on the code, the system needs to see a couple of cold eng to hot eng "cycles" without seeing a BIT set before it will clear itself. The history is probably still there so drop by Autozone and have them read the code(s) and then post it for us to comment on.
